Highly coincidental, but saw the "David" viral video for Prometheus (THE MOVIE by Ridley Scott):

I can definitely appreciate a dumb, fun movie if i'm in the right mood. However, the Transformers movies and Battleship are just taking it way too far into the "dumb" category. Did you pay money to see that at a multiplex? If so you are directly financing more shitty cash-in movies over actual good films.

Cash-in? Maybe the Transformers franchise but I didn't realize there was a mountain of cash to be made out of a movie based on a board game first published in 1967.

Apparently there was or they wouldn't have made it. Though I was more generally making a point about these flashy CG-fests that wow idiots and make them spend their money, despite being awful excuses for films. See: Avatar, Transformers, 2012, Clash of the Titans etc.

v0v it's the big blockbusters that pay for the little arty films that you probably think are worthwhile. You don't think they pay for themselves do you?

That's not really true, and also you can have big blockbusters that are intelligent and don't assume the audience are retards. See: Christopher Nolan films, Michael Mann, Spielberg etc.

It's not binary, there is a grey area between Battleship and The Dreamers.

More people go to see Battleship therefore its better. This is a democracy and the people have voted. Why do you hate freedom?

Something else that isn't entirely binary is taste. It's entirely possible to enjoy both types of films for what they are.

But there is a difference between Transformers dumb and Mission Impossible 4 dumb. Transformers dumb is the wrong kind of dumb.

FYP. Giant robots, explosions and hot chicks make for amusing action movies.

Incorrect, the Transformers movies are complete garbage.
Gag-inducing dialogue, horrible robot design, and terrible directing.

I've never paid to see any of them, and I never intend to.

Confirming. A workmate of mine was trying to see the last Transformers movie the last couple of days. Current "I fell asleep while watching" count: 2
