I saw a few VPG (and VPG-R) tankers tonight with 47%-48% win rates. Are the recruiting standards that lax or do these guys likely fall under the mate umbrella?

I think they came in before VPG were really into clan wars. And because every clan needs the 100 members to max out their chipsets, they keep them in the clan. As time goes by, and better people come in, those people will be eventually moved to VPG-R. That is unless political intrigue happens behind the scenes...and lets face it. It always does.

      Spoiler:
VPG is an extreme of sorts. It has some awesome people in it, and some terrible people in it. Very few fall between. It's safe to assume that those who come from FHC are way better at WoT than the vast majority of people in WoT.

      Spoiler:
And for some reason, Lusulpher likes to recruit people who make you want to go .

    Nested spoilers!

Lusulpher strikes me as a player who wouldn't mind taking on terrible tankers and try to mold them into killing machines. I'd like to note that almost every game where VPG ends up on my team, I win. These guys I saw weren't too terrible, or at least I didn't notice them doing naughty things like cap the flag two minutes into the game.

Ok I'm into VPG-R. Is there like a channel or something that all the VPG/VPG-R people chill in?

First match with RHINO yesterday, 5 mins after being accepted into the clan. Good fun, died like the nub that I am, we won. No idea what we were fighting for, I need to start taking a look at that clan wars map I guess :-D

So for CW, what are useful tanks to grind if you don't have a Tier X yet? Current garage (at least the useful ones):
    Pershing, T29, M41, SU-152, AMX 13-90

I'll split up the tanks according to classes on what I tend to see often in CW:

Heavy: Maus, E-100, IS-7, AMX50B (T30 too, but that is changing with the 7.2 patch, so I'll leave that out until people figure how the new tanks work out in the live server)
    Medium: Patton, Batchat
Light: (No idea...usually use mediums in place of lights for scouting role tbh)
T (No idea here either. VPG sometimes use Object 704 for base defense, and T95 for certain city maps. But like with light tanks, would probably use another heavy in their place if possible.)
    SPG: T92, Object 261

Each clan lacks something, and all clans have different things they want. One might have a ton of Patton players, but not enough Batchats. Find a tank you would enjoy grinding towards and/or playing, then go for it. It's not really a grind if you enjoy those tanks tbh.

T110 is definitely CW-viable, and we will be using them. T-54 is still decent, but Bat. Chat took over quite a few of its roles.

There are uses for lights where they will exceed medium performance, but it's always a trade-off between having another gun and having the superior scouting capacity; this decision is very much map dependent and I haven't had extensive experience on all the maps, so I can't say offhand which maps will or won't work with a light. However, I will say that the Chafwee and the 50-2 are both excellent, fun tanks to have around, even just for pubbing. 2801 is extraordinarily meh, and I never could get it to work in an aggressive role.

TDs only get the use for extraordinary situational benefits over another heavy, like Dogbeast said. The T95 is self-explanatory. The reason we use 704s for defense is that there are sometimes positions we can place them where they have excellent sniping and are capable of abusing their Romulan Cloaking Device-camo. We'll be examining the T30's new abilities and role after the patch finishes; it largely depends on its camo and mobility. The Scrubtiger is crippled by atrocious camo and its size. I'd really love to find a use for it, but can't justify it over another Tier X, especially now that the T110 has a high DPM gun.

Either way, Aeolos, pretty much all the tanks you currently have lead to good places, and the Su-152 is the only one that's slightly situational. Pick whichever one you feel you're best at playing. It's better to have a great driver in a slightly wrong tank than a bad driver in the demanded tank; strats can be reworked or modified to take into account what you have.

There are some specific problems RHINO has that dictate what we field.
We are fighting in West Africa, so it is Sand River and El Halluf all over the place. -both maps are very arty friendly
-we are not that awesome with top tier reserves
-we have problems to field 2 teams with top tanks at same time
-clans we fight are not that great with reserves either

With new locking feature we are fighting attrition wars, we are using artillery a lot (4-6 per match) and when we fight we are trying to make as much damage as possible for least locked out tanks as possible.

So quite often we attack with a lot of expendable arty (tier 7) and like 6+ AMX 13 90 with tier 9 heavies/TDs on defense. Kitchen and sink are also common sight in our ranks, you'll fit just fine

AMX 13 19 gets locked for like 17h, not really sure, tier 7 arty 2-3 days(?), tier 10 tanks for 7 days, so it is adding really nice component to clan wars. Really like it.

Thanks lads. I'm currently most comfortable in my medium (82% hitrate in Pershing, 780 avg XP i think), and looking forward a lot to the Patton. However, I feel like I'd need to get me a proper heavy at some point. Might go ahead and work towards the T110, the revamped US heavy line looks nice. Not as nice as lolrussian IS-4/7, but still decent.

IS-4 will switch to tier 10, so 2 tier 10 (IS-4 and IS-7) for XP for one.

When you get to KV rest of the tree is really nice non-grindish part.

True that, been thinking about a Derp KV for my garage anyway. Any idea when 7.3 will hit? I have no idea on patch intervals nowadays...

I'll speculate about 2-3 months out.

Another thread said that WG was going to put 7.3 public test out in ~1 month, and it typically takes about 2-4 weeks after that till it goes live.

Just start working on your IS-7 line now. Because even if you only get up to the KV-3 at patch time, you will get 2 free tanks/slots out of it. And if you make it to the IS-4, then that's another extra tank/slot.

VPG-R we dont have any stat reqs. VPG we do I think. Either way some people that have less than ideal win % arnt bad at the game. Ive watched a guy dakodah in vpg-r just humiliate people in pubs. I couldnt figure out why his win % was below 50 as from what I saw he was fine.

We keep some in vpg just for chips like rapt said. As for political intrigue? This isnt fucking politics. If you have an end tier tank and arnt just blatently horrid youll be in VPG. We are going to turn vpg-r into a proper CW team eventually so its not a lost cause where tankers go to die either.

world of tanks derp gun world of tanks derp gun world of tanks derp gun
