Opponent ship cap status - how to know?

    Hi there,

I have heard in many eve videos people stating enemy ships capacitor status. This happens a lot with Bhaalgorn pilots. The question is how do they know?

Recently I came upon a video where the author said they used ship scanners to determine enemy ship capacitor status. Can anyone please enlighten me?

    Thank you.

Ship scanners show the targeted ships current and total capacitor.

If only the already-named module was dirt cheap and didn't trigger aggro in highsec, or a test server existed, the OP could learn about this mechanism.

...and if only I was a 2003 player : D I always thought ship scanner only showed modules. Sorry about this stupid question.

FWIW I believe there's a rule to understand the semi-scrambled modules result, something about duplicate modules with anything inbetween imply more than one of said modules are really fitted, else dupes can just be to confuse you. But the cap level's always accurate.

An individual module can show up once or twice, if it's listed in the scan result at all. To be 100% sure someone has 2 Gyrostabilizer IIs, you need to see 3-4 Gyrostabilizer IIs listed simultaneously to rule out duplicates, 5 listed simultaneously to be sure he has 3 fitted, etc. You can imagine this gets very annoying when confirming high module counts of the same type ("does he have 3 gyros or 4?"), so worry more about getting the gist of the fit rather than the exact layout.

Best practice is to open up EFT and load the ship in question, make a new fit with the player's name or whatever, then scan over and over while filling it in as you go. This way, you know when you have (mostly) the entire fit and you get the stats right away, giving you an idea of what you're dealing with.

But yeah, thankfully the capacitor part is always reliable so you don't have to play games with it.

To directly answer OP's question it's the ship scanner. When you activate it on a ship it lists all the mods and in the title bar thing, there's a bar that lists the cap status. IIRC that is always correct, even if the mods that show are incorrect.

Just in case nobody has answered yet, use a ship scanner, it shows your target's capacitor.

Can you really get enough time to do all that when the shit is hitting the fan?

Consider you're flying an armour-tanked BS (probably not worrying about range & transv) recieving remote reps and cap, and once your neuts are staggered it's a matter or time/figures... yus.
How do you think people manage to dual+ box anyway?

The four times we've used ship scanners, not really. We basically landed on grid, locked up a few titans and the first one we saw tracking enhancers or damage mods on, assumed was blap-fit and went for it.

    Has never ended well.

In w-space it works well if you're up against multiple caps. Otherwise if it's all subcaps, or supers are involved it's probably not so worth it.

It's a must have for a Bhaal pilot in wormholes, as it lets you know when you've emptied a target of cap.
