Well, support is one of the hardest roles. The in-game mechanics tend to be easy, but a supports job list is about as hard as a jungler's:
Early game, help your AD carry farm, and win lane.
Late game, protect both the AD and AP carries from being killed. This often involves blocking spells and taking damage in the carry's place.
Warding, counterwarding, timing all enemy wards, notifying the team of enemy movements.
Oracles use.
Timing buffs, timing dragon/baron. This somewhat overlaps with the jungler's role in doing the same, but the support should generally be timing the enemy jungler.
Position of the enemy jungler.
If taking CV: CVing the enemy jungler's movements. Don't miss your CVs. This takes practice.
Positions (or at the very least MIA) of every enemy.
State of all ults/summoner spells in the enemy bottom lane, and their timers. This means you must have a good knowledge of every support and AD champion in the game.
State of the bottom lane, whether to push, pull back, freeze lane, etc.
Coordinate communication on the team. Generally either the support or the Jungler will be making calls, since they have the most map awareness.

People who can't play support tend to be poor at those things. Several of them are important to a lesser extent in all other roles (map awareness, timing, enemy positioning, etc). If you're bad at those things you're bad at every role.

The thing is, these are skills you should be learning as you move towards level 30. If, by the time you feel ready to be playing any kind of draft mode you should have a working knowledge of all 5 roles in a team and a strong grasp of the game's basics, which is more or less what you described there. If you don't, you should be playing blind pick and learning more about the game - it's no bad thing, that's what blind pick is there for. There just seems to be this idea in the game that the second you hit level 30 you're never, ever allowed to play normal blind anymore and you should jump straight into ranked no matter how unprepared you are. I agree with you that support is an incredibly hard role if done well, my point is more that:

This game is full of kiddies who've learned it from watching HSGG and his ilk occasionally make good plays, and rage and flame the fuck out of their team whenever they make mistakes, which of course aren't mistakes, they're YOUR FUCKING FAULT RETARD FAGGOT. They go from level 1 to level 30 without ever learning anything because they're convinced there's nothing left to learn, they're the pro as fuck carry and it's YOUR fault if YOU don't let THEM carry a game by fucking up THEIR game. They then start joining ranked games with their two rune pages and 7 champs worth of experience, and make the game a toxic experience. Not even just by flaming - the internet's like a barbeque, there's flame everywhere, I can deal with that. By making mistakes and never admitting they're mistakes or at the very least LEARNING from them. I see so many people overextend, die, then go right back to the same spot and overextend again. They will then type the following lines: 'OMFG NO SS NOOOOOOOOB' 'OMFG JUNGLER COME GANK NOOOOOB RETARD' 'SUPPORT NO WARDS FUCKING USELESS TRASH TEAM'.

Oh, I agree. People who can't play support don't have basic mechanics down, and can thus be assumed to not be able to play any role competently. There's a big difference between "can't play support" and "not the best support available". I am not the best support available. I can play support, I will hit 9/10 of my CVs, I will block a caitlin ult for my AD, etc. I'm not that good at keeping communication up, I often forget to type out timers into chat, and I don't know the minimum CDs on every ulti/ss in the game off the top of my head. I thus am not terribly reliable at controlling the lane.

Personally, I think you should have at least 500 normal wins, the ability to play 8 champs for every role to at least a basic level, and one role to at least average competence before you start ranked.

Normal Draft tends to be my favorite mode; ranked is filled with dunning-kruger sufferers, and blind pick gets its own special brand of derp.

Problem is that everyone can play a shitty support and everyone can play an average carry. 99% of players actually do play other roles better than supports. They do think then when they are better in other roles they can win games easier if they play what they are more confident with. It's all down to the fact, that even if they play other roles better it doesn't necessarily mean that this is most optimal choice for your team roles. Maybe there are some other players in their teams who can play support just as bad but they excel at other roles? And that they just won't care hard enough to pursue that or they are fed up with fighting with retards for their spots.

I know I am in no position to give anyone tips - my great fortune in ranked solo queue was that my strength is not mechanical skill but map and team awareness and I much better at global objectives and cooperation that I am in laning. My way was to learn supports and utilize it to win low lvl rankeds. I have noticed how terrible the average support is and how easy is to win a fight and get a map control while playing offensive supports. I have no idea if that's going to help anyone to get higher in elo ranks but do please consider one thing as well. You don't see your own mistakes that clearly. Maybe this elo that you feel you don't deserve that hard is where you should actually be right now? Maybe you are much better at certain aspects and that let you think you are better then average player of your elo. Maybe you don't see you do just as many bad things and your "you all suck I should be higher I really see this oh god you derped again so dumb how do i carry this shitty team jdjdjdj" attitude is not really helping?

Please, do not take it personally, this is just what I have noticed in 99% of ranked players I have encountered while playing on smurf a bit of time ago. Somehow everyone think they should be higher in elo, but i have never met anyone who would say "shit, I am not that good, I should be much lower in ranks, this guys just all play better then me". Funny, isn't it?

Oh and I love normal draft as well. It's a perfect spot (well as perfect as it could) between tryharding and not giving a fuck at all. People at my normal elo usually pick missing roles, got decent attitude and do not troll. They are usually not raging hard just because they don't care that much. Ranked is usually much more polarized.

I have quite the different gripe with playing Support... in the beginning, I mained Blitzcrank and other tanky chars. I was slowly pushed into a Support role (which I actually enjoy) and I would say I am right now a very dependable and flexible support (except I dont like Janna).

Now the issue I have that ever since I started playing support, my other character skills have suffered so heavily, I am currently completely inept at playing any other lane.

There is one situation in which lichbane is good on Lux: When your team are total morons and won't push towers, so you need to do it alone after teamfights.

Of course, this is the same situation in which lichbane is good on any other AP carry, with the possible exception of AP Nidalee and such.

Had a horrible game last night. Was in a terrible mood, so don't know why I logged in tbh. I was jungling with Lee and Mundo just put me in his pocket and wouldn't let me out. I got a tiny bit behind in levels and he invaded my jungle and completely wiped it out. We pulled it back a bit and could have won if mid lane hadn't fed and then cried all match.

Nice thing though, my team didn't blame me and didn't really flame. Twas nice

Had a nocturne vs olaf game the other day and I was doing pretty good as nocturne counter jungling n shit, but every lane was pushed and olaf repeatly ganked top lane so even though I was playing p. good he was getting ahead, and then of course I was getting less gold as he was able to kill every lane because they kept pushing :3
