That Decathlon looks a helluvalot better. The Suntour fork on the VooDoo is crap really, the RockShox Recon is much better. Also, X-7 components on the Decathlon are comparable to Shimano's SLX group, which is one up compared to the Deore stuff on the VooDoo. 2011 model has suntour forks, tektro brakes, vanilla deore drivetrain, 14kg (!)

Halfords sell a lot of bikes that you can't get anywhere else, I bought a Carerra Fury a few years back, full SRAM set, RockShox Tora forks, fantastic bike.
I'll admit, I brought it home, and spent a couple of hours semi-dismantling it and putting it together better.
I have been looking at the Decathlon bike every time I go there, one of these days I'll just get it.

Be a bit careful with CRC, I've bought from them before and they were fine but ~apparently~ they were hacked a couple of months back. Might be an idea to have a look into what the outcome of that was before delivering them sensitive details.
Cycling! I sold my car in October and I've been commuting with my Surly LHT (below) right along the beach every day. Its ~6.9km down hill on the way to work, and uphill in the evening, but I think I'm going to need to taking a longer ride in the morning or taking more lunch rides/runs - but I swear there's something about riding with a 35-40 pound (12kg) pack because my lunch rides are way easier than the rides to/from work. Its probably more informative to just link you to my riding log (on Runkeeper). I should reaaallly update my picture though - I've lost 50-60 pounds (25kg) since then, but I don't know if it'd show up in the pictures. I'm still sunch a lard ass.

Bah, I did some research on backpacks and it seems like try don't make any difference in calorie consumption. I would THINK that they would, or that the difference in difficulty would make my body work that much harder....
But I guess I'm looking at 500ish calories/day anyway so meh.
What? The extra weight putting pressure on your muscles which you would not use otherwise during cycling is there, you said it yourself. Your 12kg backpack doesn't levitate

Nice improvement on the 18km I was able to manage last week but still short, my legs are now burning and completely jelly
I have one of these, it's fast and I've done some trail riding with it. I didn't find any crazy shit (big jumps) to try it on last year though.
The fork also has a ton of clearance for wider tires. Stock tires were 700x32C, but before winter I had switched to road tires for faster speed when I was commuting.

Big jumps on a no-suspension road bike and just 700x32 tires? You crazy, man. I ride 700x35s on my commuter and wouldn't jump off anything much bigger than 2-3 steps.
