    ebooks, where to find?

I am on standby and quickly running out of books. I do not have an available wifi connection to get more with my kindle. Can someone direct me to a good place to download ebooks to put on a kindle? Before you say look harder for a wifi connection, I am offshore and it's totally out of the question. Thanks for readin

Internet does not always come in wifi flavor. Sometimes it's just plain old hardwire to the laptop

Ok, I was thinking you were claiming the lack of wifi hindered your ability to obtain new books.

    http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-eBooks/...ode=1286228011

I'm kinda confused on your problem now.

So what you're basically saying is that you've always used the kindle in-built wi-fi store to download your books and you are now subsequently without the requisite knowledge to download books elsewhere via the medium of an internet browser?

Well unless I am a total and complete retard (and I'm not ruling that out just yet) that link has a total of 8 ebooks. Every other book I have searched for via Amazon is not available to download to pc and then subsequently transfer via usb. Some are available in audible format which is not what I am looking for either. Does that make sense or am I babbling?

You are correct, I have up until this point only used the kindle's wifi connection to acquire my ebooks. I have found a couple ebooks via browser but my problem thus far is they are not in the correct format, and I do not know how to fix that. So basically I am looking for kindle formatted ebooks.

That's the Amazon ebooks page, unless something is terribly wrong where you are at it should be a resource for damn near every ebook in existence.

As for the other thing... I'm really not sure. I know when I used Audible for audio books when I traveled a lot all I needed was to be the same person though audibles DRM is probably a lot more retarded than Amazon's. Though don't take my word for it I haven't done the ebook thing and I've only played around with my brothers Kindle fire. The only way to find out is to try it, if it doesn't work don't stress to much you'll be able to download it again.

edit: it's also the "kindle ebooks store" so if you're stressed about compatibility with the kindle... It's the KINDLE ebooks store.

I have a nook and that uses epub so occasionally when I obtain books I use the program below to convert to epub

    http://calibre-ebook.com/
convert to mobi for amazons reader.(I think)

Try searching for ebooks that are not in that list of 8 and tell me what you get.

As an above poster has already stated, use calibre to convert books to the kindle format.

In-terms of finding them, i just use torrent sites.

You're pretty terrible if you can't find more than 8 ebooks on amazon

and for the less legal means...

    torrent sites & google? ;3

the "parent directory search" is especially handy for stuff like ebooks etc.

put dis on google (replace the <your search here> with book title and format):

"index of" "parent directory" <your search here> -html -htm -php -shtml -opendivx -md5 -md5sums -asp -txt -pls -xxx

I'm not denying being terrible, but apparently if you check the 'Kindle eBooks' tab at the top, it gives you only those 8 books. If you go to the 'Kindle Store' tab over on the left you get more options, but I still don't get a screen like you are showing in your screenshot. It recommends a bunch of hard cover and mass market paperback stuff, which does me no good. Every book I have searched for by title is not available in Kindle ebook format. Would it be restricted due to which country it thinks I am in possibly?

Thanks for the calibre info, I will try that when I manage to find a torrent site that the firewall out here isn't blocking.

    Please keep in mind the connection out here is heavily firewalled and s l o w a s f u c k.

This disease is terminal I'm afraid. Apparently every single one of the dozen or so books I am looking for are not available from the Kindle store, lucky me! I guess this leaves me with just finding them in an alternate format and then converting. Still downloading calibre btw. 40mb is a relatively huge file for the connection I am. It would almost be faster to walk to the website I swear. Thanks for the help FHC!

Ask someone on here for the books you want, then ask them nicely to host said files somewhere - profit?

    What he said ^^

Torrents tend to be sizable libraries, I've seen whole calibre libraries up for grabs if you can get past that firewall though.

I always liked baen. You can buy ebook editions of their work for less than than Amazon is charging, downloads are available in every ebook format or in zip files, and they also have a huge free library with several books from each of their authors. If you like sci-fi or fantasy, it's a great publisher to patronize.
