[TMA] Quality Centre and related gubbins

Has anyone here used Quality Centre or one of the other similar test management tools?

I've not but my glorious leader has been told by a consultant that it's :awesome: and so is preparing to throw bucketloads of cash at HP for licenses. Normally this would be fine but I've got this feeling that if it turns out to be shit then it'll be my fault, so I'm after some independent info/experience both on QC and similar tools...

Example of how shitty it is:

If you decide to move a requirement from one folder to another then you will most likely create a circular dependency in the SQL database and lock everyone who was browsing that folder when they last closed QC unable to open QC. Also the entire folder will disappear for everyone else and require fiddling with the SQL or restore to a previous backup.

It also requires IE. That in itself is bad enough.

Seriously run away and do not look back.

Look into JIRA and fitnesse instead

    Oh dear

Thanks I'll have a look at them - JIRA is on the cards as a replacement issue tracking system anyway, so that's handy.

i have to say, as far as bugs go that one is rather impressive!

    2. Bloodthirsty sea pirates who ravaged northern Europe beginning in the 9th century.

Hagar's note: The first definition is much preferred; the second is used only by malcontents, the envious, and disgruntled owners of waterfront property.

Quality Center is crap. JIRA is all you need for issue management.

that just means its deeply embedded in the code, so something is dependant on that kind of ass-backwards behaviour.
