The "why American Revolution?" crowd are overlooking something. The game series has never been about "assassins" but the secret war between the Order of Assassins and the Knights Templar. The period of the Revolution saw the founding of American chapters of the Freemasons (who have a connection with the Templar), and in fact George Washington was a member and was rumored to have been chosen as their leader before he was President. If that doesn't make an historical basis for an Assassin's Creed game I don't know what does.

Also, no idea if this has any significance or is just coincedental

Actually, looks like people already figured this out over a year ago

Good post, +rep. There's so much Free-Mason related conspiracy theories related to the Founder that they'd be insane to NOT use this for one of the AC games.

As far as Feudal Japan goes, that'd be fuckin awesome when it comes to gameplay, but would it really make any sense story-wise? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like there's no historical basis for Templars in Feudal Japan. I think they'd skip Renaissance France because there's already been so many AC games in the Renaissance. Victorian England is a great idea IMO, but since they seem to want to go in chronological order, so I'm not surprised they're doing the American Revolution before Victorian England.

    Agreed, that'd be sweet.

edit: yeah the garb is so out of place. lol.
Agreeing the clothes are silly, but as far as climbing goes, I think they could do a lot of nature-based stuff like rock climbing. Also, one of those screen shots showed the guy sitting in a tree, so there's still hope for some vertical gameplay.

    EDIT: New trailer

I like how the hatchet blade is in the shape of the assassin symbol.

Also, no hidden blade? Hidden blade better be in there

didnt care much for asscreed games, they never worked for me. also i hate the animus plot gimmick, just let me immerse in the world without bullshit secondary storyline with most bland protagonist ever. this setting looks like it could be interesting though. what would even be better if ascreed 4 just went all out with steampunk victorian england.

Watching the E3 footage of this now. Assassin is native American, all the Templars are seemingly English people and the assassin seems to be sided with the Americans in the war.

The steampunk setting in the Thief franchise worked really well. Would work with an Asscreed game too I'd think.
Killing people hither and yon across the American wilderness won't be much fun without free movement through the trees.

Just got the new issue of Gameinformer. AC3 is getting a side game that's a full fledged one (Ala Revelations/Brotherhood) called Assassin's Creed III: Liberation.

And the Assassin is a woman, which is already getting my interest as I remember it was heavily theorized that AC3's Assassin would be female. It also appears to be set in New Orleans during the Revolutionary War as well as during the French-Indian War.

Also appears to be Creole, or at least black. Which will bring out the :racist posers: crowd no doubt. Definitely looking forward to the AC3 line of games now.

So if I'm understanding this as a native American member of the Assassins you are helping freeloving Murkans to free themselves from evil oppressing British so they can be free to genocide your people? I though AssCreed was made by Canadians, oh right they also successfully completed a genocide.

AC is all about killing dudes with the hidden blade and climbing stuff(especially landmarks). If those two tings aren't in AC3 then Ubisoft picked up and ate the idiot ball.

A bit off topic, but I've been wondering for a while now. How much in terms of historical figures is legit in the AC games? Obviously everything about assassins, templars and conspiracies is made up(or not :tinfoil, but what about Ezios family,Borgia,Medici, etc.

Turkeys will fucking jump you like black kids in the ghetto. Then they go for your eyes. You CANNOT trust them.

Auditore family is fictitious, but the Borgias are real and really were Templars. Catarina Sforza, da Vinci, and the Medicis were also real. The thing I took issue with is that the Medici that Ezio helps in AC2 ends up persecuting Protestants IRL.

Why all the American Revolution hate? AC team have always said they wanted to do areas that weren't done much in gaming history, and GLORIOUS NIPPON has been done to death.
