Felt a bit sorry for the Irish after that. They were clearly knocked back by last week's result.

I kind of agree, but I guess I focus more on our performance than theirs. It was the same after last week - I tried to focus on how good Ireland were, rather than just how poor we were - and they're related of course, we couldn't play as well as we should have, exactly because Ireland were so good last week.

Interesting to see SA/England draw, but by all accounts a bit of an uninspiring game? That's 2nd/3rd hand - haven't yet seen the game myself.

The best part of the NZ game was that we played Ritchie at No.8, had no Kieran Reid, no Dan Carter, and the young guys are were awesome. We finally have a half-back who is in the Gregan/Genia mould - "annoying" if you know what I mean.

Even SBW's performance was nearly enough to make me wish he'd stay (I said nearly....and we all know he's not staying anyway)

Scotland target World Cup victory and a Grand Slam

I mean I know we won all 3 of our tour matches and one was against the Aussies but it was a distinctly understrength Aussie team and we barely scraped through against Samoa and Fiji.... I want some of whatever that guy is smoking cause it must be some good shit.

In other news, Super Rugby is back for the next few weeks ahead of the new 4-way international series beginning in August. My boys the Highlanders are out of the running now after they lost at home to the Chiefs 27-21, but the Hurricanes pipped the Crusaders in Christchurch 23-22.

You're just as much of a Queenslander as half the QLD team you Kiwi.

NSW had that game in the bag but lost it 10 minutes either side of half time and then did nothing to get it back after that. Close and exciting game but damn both sides didn't go that little bit extra to win it.

Fucken epic game tonight between the Hurricanes and Chiefs in Wellington. Quality running rugby all over the place, only one scrum in the entire first half. Canes with a last minute pushover try to snatch it 28-25.

Went out to the Brumbies Blues game this arvo. Nice enough weather for the first half but the rain poured down in the second.

Brumbies played stupid and deserved to lose it. All game it just seemed that they just wanted the lose by <7 for the bonus point and never did anything to try win. Taking shots at goal from within their own half into a strong wind ain't going to win you the game.

And nbs the Waratahs have put in yet another piss poor performance and the Reds beat them with a bonus point so out of nowhere QLD is the top Australian side.

e: and over night the South Africans won the games they needed so the Brumbies miss the finals all together. How things can change in a week.

Australia over England over night 20 to 14. No way that English try was a try, one hair on his forearm touching the ball doesn't count as control.

What is the deal with those purple and gold English get ups?

I'd guess it's to advertise/sell different England kits as opposed to the standard white ones.

They've been trying to run him out for a while now making him a scapegoat for everything. TBH I'd trust his side of the story with all the problems in the ARU and NSWRU/QLDRU. The game isn't in a good place at all atm with a massive old boys club at the top and no spending on anything but the Wallabies, Waratahs and Reds who only play guys who went to the right school or played for the right junior club.

We don't even have a national comp under the Super 15. I can't see how anyone expects Australia to get back to being the top rugby nation with just two properly funded provincial sides and no national comp.

The old clubs in Sydney club rugby (semi pro comp dominated by the only ones with the money to pay players) are strangling it from below preventing a national comp that will take control from them and the ARU does nothing. An NPC / Currie Cup equivalent should be top priority for the ARU but they just fluff about running talent out of the game.

Watched the Wales vs Australia match tonight. 14 - 12 to Australia but boy did that match sum up just what a shit place international rugby is in atm (sans NZ).

Wales should have won but deserved to lose as they did by switching to negative, time-wasting rugby when they were only in front by 3. I actually bet a friend the last cold beer that Australia would steal the match with a breakaway try in the last 5 minutes.

And that try demonstrated why the Wallabies are now so shit - they refuse to hold onto the ball. All teams (except NZ) kick the fucking ball away time after time. Unless you are targeting a player who is weak under the high-ball or you have a line-out that can steal the opponents ball don't fucking kick unless you are a back and by yourself. Australia scored the try simply because they were forced to hold onto the ball and keep it alive. Who'd have thought that got you tries?

The whole game is now about getting penalties with tries being a secondary objective. The old school tactic was always go for the try and take the penalty as a consolation. Now it is get over the half and hope the opponent infringes.

Rugby League is now a far better game to watch and I suspect that Union will shortly be the 4th code in Australia after the A-League. Our players seem to lack fundamental skills and have almost zero tactical sense. Deans really needs to go back to basics and dump any player who can't pass or who passes before hitting the advantage line, or who kicks for no good reason. But too many egos are involved and the pool of players is drying up.
