    T'amber may be a silly cunt, but he has posted loads of pretty good still 3d stuff in the past and clearly has a measure of creative skillz in a few areas.

    Asking how hard it'd be to create an animation with effects from some models he's already made/skinned/wiredup is a pretty reasonable request and even discounting how massively vapid 99% of what he does or says is, I suspect he has a fair idea what he's undertaking.

    That said, T'amber: you are still, and will remain, a silly cunt. Xx

    Pretty much everything I wanted to know he has or is in the process of telling me.

    Seems like RockCalledSteve isn't very patient with me so back to trying to figure this stuff out myself.

    I managed to get the nebulae maps realigned into 6 star compatable cubemap and then converted them into a spherical map (Mental Ray doesn't seem to like the Reflect/ Refract shaders) instead of placing each image onto a cube face (although I will retry this tonight). End result isn't bad, but its not awesome either.

    edit - just realised that the environment map is recieving shadows for some reason which is why it looks so odd (the stars disappear as they have no inherent luminance)

    Ok found a new method to render images.
    Output of images now down to about 15 frames a second rather than 1 frame every 5mins.
    A scene that took me 29hours last week was done in almost real time.



    Picture on the left rendered with my 4 video cards and the one on the right with my quad core phenom.

    Most rendering in a 3d program uses very little of your video card unless its a proper dedicated card. I'm just using the viewport and DX shaders now so that it does use my gaming cards - I wish someone had pointed out that this was possible before I never knew There are obviously some restrictions but I think I can get around these by using a combination of both methods.
