I tend towards alt-country and americana. I have tremendous antipathy towards the country-pop/nashville sound. Generally, if it's played on the radio it's absolute shit.

Bluegrass count? If so, Nickel Creek are nice (and they might even get back together one of these days).

The Cardigans did a country-ish album a few years ago that's pretty nice. Might be a bit far off the category though. Long Gone Before Daylight

edit: Ohhh, and 16 Horsepower is great (Wikipedia calls them "alternative country").

Not the best rhyming but I really believe we may be seeing the beginning of a new awesome sub-sub-genre. If they mixed in elements of post-rock, I would die.

      Spoiler:

Was the song that made me fall in love with bloodshot records.

      Spoiler:

    My new favorite duo.

      Spoiler:

Not country, but certainly in the same vein as roots music. Which is what country/americana/blues is. And Patrick Carney reminds me of Hast.

    Some of my favorites....

    John Denver
      Spoiler:

RIP John Denver - Excellent Music, and could put on one hell of a show with or without backing music

    Randy Travis
      Spoiler:

So many good songs, diggin' up bones is also another good one

    Garth Brooks
      Spoiler:

I don't really care what the naysayers say about garth brooks, he was and is a FABULOUS country artist and is one of my favs

You can just feel the energy coming off of him in this live version of callin' baton rouge. If I ever get the chance(and he goes back to touring) I really want to see this/him live, I bet it'd be phenominal.

Also shows off how amazing his live shows must be. The audio might be a bit off, im on a laptop so speakers arent the best judge of sound quality :P

So many more good songs of his, but I'm trying to keep this post from being absurd, look up almost anything by him and it'll be amazing.

    Big n' Rich
      Spoiler:

These guys make a lot of country purists ~mad~ and have generated a lot of controversy. I say their music is good, don't give two shits if it's "real" country.

    Toby Keith
      Spoiler:
You gotta love Toby Keith - this guy is just awesome =D

I love the guy who says "god no" Best line ever lol, also Red Solo Cup Bong...so much win in that video.

GO USA!(Means a lot to me, but prob not as much to the rest of the nationalities on this board)

This also generated some ~mad~ but is again, an awesome song, so fuck the haters

    Rascal Flatts
      Spoiler:

These guys are more nashville etc etc, but have so many awesome songs imo.....
Also one of the "best" hair styles of country singers :P

Not exactly a traditional country song, more christmas-ey, but these guys have my favorite version of it. You can claim theyre commercial, but they have talent, and like John Denver, don't need instruments to back them up

I could post tons more of them, but this post is getting hella long.

    Osborne Brothers
      Spoiler:

I'll close with some OLDSCHOOL country(prob more bluegrass) and one of my favorite songs...(Rascal Flatts actually has been known to do this song live in their shows)

    Derp link twas broken.
    ~Dat Voice~ =D

It sounds like the usual nashville trite but the lyrics aren't nearly as bad, not good, but not horribly bad.

    Am I becoming pedestrian?
