    Which test?

My RX580 scored 4116 on the combined Time Spy, so your card is...twice as powerful?

In a shock to only Nvidia, gaming card sales dropped by 45% last quarter.. Maybe release a card with more than a 5% improvement at less than a 50% cost hike?

Only in that there was a glut of cheap cards laying around. A video card that costs more than the rest of the system but only offers 10-15% improvement in speed plus a feature that's going to be useless well in to the next generation (at the current rate) over a card that's a few hundred bucks was never going to outsell previous generation...

I don't see NVIDIA's implementation of raytracing becoming as popular as PhysX.

I'm still waiting for a Titan X worthy to replace mine, it's a bit mindboggling on how little performance increases you get for a lot of monies nowadays :S

It might be a sign that GPUs - as we currently know them - are going over the curve of becoming a mature technology like eg: sound cards did a while ago. To use the traditional bad car analogy, people don't expect to buy a car that does 320km/h just because their current one can do 240. They generally expect to pay a bit more for the next car, but they look for fuel economy, reliability, a good warranty or even seats that give better lumbar support.

Cars in this case are a bad example as while its true they arent getting any faster, thats mostly due to them not needing to go any faster (you CAN get cares that go 320km/h, its just pointless to do the engineering involved in that most of the time). They also aren't getting any more expensive. The car I bought 2 years ago cost less than the car I bought 10 years ago and has a tone more features, plus its far more economical to run despite having a more powerful engine.

The 20xx series is none of this. Its a little bit faster, eats a massive amount more fuel (power) and costs almost twice as much than the last generation. If any car manufacturer were to do that they would die almost overnight, but nvidia can get away with it largely due to there being next to no competition.

Its ok though because they are about to kill raytracing before its even begun by releasing the 16xx series that preforms as well as the 20xx series for a fraction of the cost (but without the feature no one really cares that much about).

As it will be - barring mechanical failure - at least 3 more years until I buy another video card, raytracing will either be a budget card standard or have been completely forgotten by the time I need to care about it.

I'm betting Vega prices will drop when Navi is unveiled.

Friend might buy my basically brand new sapphire rx580 so tempted to get a used vega 56. They're like 250usdish here. Could also get a 1070 for the same price but freesync monitor. Eh idk.

It's about 40% perfomance increase so i probably wouldn't. Whatever generation cuntsoles are still some time away and so is cykapunk2077 while 970 handles anything on high?

Yeah but you're fine playing on a shitty potato wanking about in boates. Even 40% is a lot.
