Got an Asus 670 DCU TOP, very quiet and cool. Very happy with it.

AMD 6850HD vs 7850HD. £90 ($140) vs £180. Is the 7850 worth double? Review's don't suggest so but anyone know of any 7850 price cuts coming soon? There looks like a shortage so I guess that's why prices have remained high?
The 6850 might do ok now, but in a few years that 1gb of memory might be a huge bottleneck. The 7850 has 2gb so it should stay competitive much longer.

Buying a 1GB card now is not really a great idea, there are already games that push past 1GB with the detail turned up and lots more of them in the pipeline. The 7850 is too expensive atm, but NVidia's new mid-range cards are due out very soon and that should push the Radeon down a good bit.
Thanks Bomb, I'll hold on for a little longer![]()
AMD seems to have started reducing prices. Reference 7950s have dropped below £240 and 7970s to under £300, presumably to make way for the 7970 GHz Edition. No movement on the 7800 series yet, but that should happen soon because the current situation of the 7870 selling within a few pounds of the 7950 is clearly nuts.
Unless you really need a new card *now* I would wait a month or three. Nvidias new midrange cards should arrive in the next few months. And even if those are not interesting for you, they should reduce the price of the AMD cards.
/edit: Basically what Bombcrater said 3 posts up.
i need a new graphics card.
my ati 4890 is starting to suck balls and struggle with new stuff.
my processor is a i7 920 on 1366 socket, which should still be ok (i think). mostly playing dota 2, guild wars 2 but would like to be able to get good fps in BF3 as well.
for about £200 whats the best way to go? i dont care about brand loyalty so ati or nvidia idc.
7850 is probably the best way to go for that budget.

So right now I have a 6870 1GB. The rest of my build is pretty much all new, i7 2700k, 16gb of ram, good mobo. I want to future proof before I move out and my card is the oldest bit right now. The way games are looking now the 1GB is pretty low and I can't max eve in huge fights yet.
Would a jump up to a 670 4GB be worth it?
I'm sure it's frustrating to be sperging about how someone said "no, not doing that yet" - but we've had 7 years to learn to pace ourselves after killing a block. And I dare say -- we've gotten quite good at it.
Sorry if it doesn't suit the armchair generals who have never committed to anything for more than 2 months, but by now we've learned that we really don't give a shit about what you think v0v.
2GB should be fine for a couple more years, unless you're running a triple monitor setup:

No Metro2033 on that graph? cool.
Has anyone actually even ever played Metro2033? I see it used as a benchmark but I've never seen anyone go 'you must play this game, it's fucking awesome'.

Does anyone have any comments on the 670 I posted? Was going to order it tonight.
