In that vein the new g8 plus is a cracking little phone.

I want to use gestures though.

I had a Motorola G5S w/ custom Android 10 ROM until i broke the display (very good phone btw. except camera is meh and no compass, so direction in maps wouldnt work)

There i could configure back gesture to only trigger in the lower part of the screen

Vanilla Android apparently cant do it, lel

Swiping up 45 kinda works, but lack of this functionality is infuriating

Same with non-configurable "unlock screen" pattern. I've used 5x5 grid on custom ROMS since like Android 7. Vanilla Android apparently doesnt have an option to use anything but 3x3? lol

Yada yada fingerprint unlock - doesnt work in a LOT of cases, one example: rain/wet fingers, another example: after visiting a climbing gym

Found an HTC One M8 in front of my flat building. Put up a hand written note inside with my Hush phone number and a message to text me the IMEI. Left it up for about a week or so, nobody texted so I ended up resetting it and will probs use it as a backup. Interestingly it's about the same size as my HTC 10 but with less features so probably it'll end up as a Torque display for the car.

Still sad I didn't get any message, I know the pain of losing your phone x.x

Any recommendations for a non-massive/note mobile?
My A1 is starting to fail a little and i'm eyeing upgrades to non-premium phones that i don't need a special bag for !
Please don't teach me what to do with my pc.

    Can recommend Pixel 3a
Its p. small by todays standards,

    151.3 x 70.1 x 8.2 mm

    A1 is 155.4 x 75.8 x 7.3 mm

Main reason for me to shell out 300ish € instead of 180-200 for similiar hardware from Xiaomi etc. is guaranteed support directly from google until at least may 2022.

For example pixel 1 from 2016 is upgradable to android 10 and latest security patch.

Also Google tests Android on these. Its obv. not Apple, but should sorta kinda have more polish and less bugs compared to other options (at least i hope so).

thank you, i'll take a look at the pixel A range. The samsung looks ok, but is 500 which makes me go 'welp'.

I have just noticed there is a Xiaomi Mi A3 out now, for 150 that seems to do all the things i need of a phone. Time to read up on reviews.

It's also a stock Android, not bloated with additional unremovable <manufacturer> apps, depending on counting GSuite as "bloat" or not.

Has anyone here ever changed the battery in a OnePlus 2?
Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves for slaughter.

From Mi MIX 2 forward no issue as I'm told. Source: friend with Mi MIX 2.

Yeah miui is mostly fine. Great AOD options and customizations.
People claim it's gesture control is better than Googles.

Have a look at the various Nokia phones.

HMD (ex-Nokia guys) seems to do a decent job with the Nokia brand. All reviews I've read over the past years were favorable. The phones seem to be very affordable, but as least as good as the more pricer ones from competitors.

This, another friend has one and it's a solid spec device, lower price compared to Samsung or even LG, with clean Android without bloat. They push updates almost as fast as Google does for Pixel and for as long as device can run it.
