No, they're not. Only stupid phones are expensive, cheap phones are better than ever.

I'm not really enjoying some of the changes in Android 9. The task switcher alone is a hark back to the bad old days of not being quick to use.. The new side volume (I'm assuming this isn't a Oneplus specific one) sucks. The clock on the left got so annoying I now don't have a clock...

It would be so bad it there was just an option to put them back..

With the exception of the task manager, Samsung doesn't have any of these

They aren't cheap phones, they're mid range

What's the current tech equivalent to a OnePlus 2 on the market now?

I got the Mrs one of those (Mi A2 Lite 3GB/32GB) for xmas and she's well happy with it. Coming from a S7 Edge too (albeit with a massive purple line down the screen for >1 of the 2 years of ownership)

Mi a2 is a bit outdated now, I'd wait for for the Mi A3 if you want pure Android.
Otherwise the redmi note 7 is a complete bargain. Global version should launch end of the February.

    Or pocophone for 250.

Over at Ars Technica, this article just popped up: Guidemaster: The least-awful Android phones - Over 400 Android devices were released last year. Here are the good ones.

    tl;dr
    - Under $400? Buy a Nokia phone: The Nokia 6.1—A superb, basic smartphone for $269, The Nokia 7.1—Flagship-style design for $350, if that’s your thing, also: the Moto G7 family
    - The OnePlus 6T—The $549 “Flagship Killer” that’s actually a flagship killer
    - The Pixel 3 and 3 XL—The $800-$900 “I want a good camera” phone

(The later with this caveat emptor "I have a hard time recommending any Android phone at the $700-$1,000 price point. When you are spending this much money—iPhone money—I feel like a company must deliver an uncompromised experience, and Android OEMs just can't deliver on the entire package of a smartphone. Samsung devices are the most popular at this price point, but you're getting an inconsistent, reskinned OS full of crapware, and you'll have to wait six months to get an OS update. Google hardware design always seems like it's a year behind the competition or (in the case of the Pixel 3 XL) is just ugly. Nokia has been producing awesome smartphones, but the product line (in the US, at least) just stops after $400. Other companies like LG, HTC, and Sony feel like they're still in the market producing $700 smartphones, because it's just too embarrassing to give up.")

Image doesn't work here. But you can get fairly decent phones for about $200 these days, and that plain wasn't possible a couple of years ago.

Just buy a g6. two hundred quid and it's a great little phone. I went from an S7E to that and it's only a tiny downgrade. If I'd gone to the S10 instead that's literally four times the price. Good phones have never been cheaper.

I am handing out Samsung J6's at the office and for the price (130) they are extremely capable phones, not quite enough phone for my use but if you don't live on it and just need the basics (email, whats app, facebook etc.) and low price is important i would recommend.

And having an image that does not cause Autism attacks even more so.

I think I'm going to upgrade from the s8 plus to the s10 plus. So far the reviews make it seem like an instaby if you liked the s8.
