lol. Why not have it just return 'Windows Nine' then? They can case all their own apps to present it graphically to users as Windows 9 where they want to.
I doubt it, although it would be a good idea just to give free upgrade copies to everyone running 8.x and then erase Win 8; no more sales, no support (while I happen to like Win 8 personally, anything that unpopular needs to die double quick). But they'll probably opt run the same cut-price deal for early upgrades that they did for 7>8 upgrades.
Been playing with Win 10 preview for a couple of hours now and I quite like it, it's basically 8.1 tweaked to work a bit more like Win 7. Which is exactly what it needs to be.

Change the name, tidy it up and ta-daaa all the innovations people hate and bitched about for 11million forum posts are now decent features.
It'll probably continue to be a thing. Every other release - throw out wacky (innovative) stuff people will hate/love/adapt to then water ti down back to core enterprise windows functionality on alternates.
'big' companies are still finishing their 7 rollouts. Just in time for 10.
