Not everyone is a native speaker of English and thus will not be able to reproduce the off-standard-pronounciation therefore not get it? I sure as hell didn't at first attempts and am pretty damn awesome at speaking English.

Sort of this. You can interpret quite a few things into a play. I saw a show of a similar German classical play "
Intrigue and Love" (originally "Kabale und Liebe" by Friedrich Schiller, namesake of my uni) and they moved the focus from despotism, criticism of the rigidity of class to two young inexperienced awkward lovers. It was amazing as that connected a lot better with the audience than the original focus. That was achieved only by acting, no scenes were cut, no lines altered.
