It's firm so it clips onto the pelvis like a... clip?

That doesn't include that one then. All the electronic and other parts can be used perfectly well in ALL lego. Technic is just more complex, not more restricted.

I love Lego and I'm eagerly waiting till my toddler is old enough so I can pretend I'm buying Lego for him. But since I'm back in toy shops and 'casually' checking out Lego packs, it seams they have gone really restrictive one-design crap. I hope I'm wrong and that at least tech Lego are as good as they used to be.

Check the creator series, 99.9% old style blocks in those sets. I also recently bought the set with Gandalf and his cart, and it contained more parts and assembled like the old sets unlike what I expected. The unique parts were the figures, one of the rockets from Gandalf's fireworks display and a backpack for the figures. The cart wheels were new for me, but are not restrictive. Oh and minifigs like Frodo now have two faces if they are using hair pieces.

    It's not all doom.

Why wait that long, my dad bought that stuff when I was 2. And when I say 'stuff', I mean Technic. I was a smart kid, but not that smart, just to make sure you get it

No I played with classic blocks most my life. The most technical lego I got were powered train tracks.

You have missed out tbh. Technic is amazing stuff once you get the hang of making your own stuff.

Lego Technic always seemed a bit of pain in the butt as a kid. We only had a few old bits of it since it was more expensive than regular lego though. But why as a ten year old do I need to fiddle around with trying to make cogs and gears work when I can make a USS Enterprise and a Space Battleship Yamato and fly them around the house using my hands?
