Also yellow is Swedens national color, nice unintentional touch there

(unless the color is somehow attached to Montana aswell, which makes it intentionally funny nonetheless)

Ahhh Montana. Land of wide open spaces, wind, and sun. Yet in several trips across the state I’ve yet to see a single solar panel or wind turbine. Just lots of confederate flags and trucks with oathkeeper stickers.

I see confederate flags flying on houses in the Seattle exurbs. And in the Northern California area where I grew up.

It’s funny, because Dukes of Hazzard was on TV when I was a kid I really didn’t think of the flag as symbolically charged until my teens, at least. I sort of figured it was just another piece of history-turned-pop-culture. I dunno, maybe it was back then, to some extent. But these days that excuse doesn’t fly.

    And speaking of flags...

We learned about the power of flags in the old south africa, but yes, I too enjoyed the dukes of hazzard (dubbed into fucking Afrikaans), but it's a something that would never have been made now, more or less. Culture and society changes its values over time.

If there was some enclave acting like that in the old country, some enterprising comrade would remind them who won after too much time...

The problem here is that we need to re-teach the lesson about what happens to traitors.

But really, it’s just a certain background level in all of rural America. It’s more intense in some places, but it’s pervasive.

Uhh I thought Sherman got his original plan in the form of the March to the Sea. Sure he could have kept going, but there wasn’t a real military need to do so.

The problem was with abandoning Reconstruction. There were black congressmen, mayors, state senators, widespread black voter participation, etc. while Union troops occupied the South and while Washington maintained a hands-on management policy (read: Democrats were out of power). That period ended way too soon; it should have lasted a generation or two.
