You had to be in the previous games to understand it. Snusnu Benny and I had had 3 or 4 terrible games where we try harded and lost horribly. Benny had to go to bed and Snusnu and I just went "fuck it" and did Mao/Jarv bottom with great success.

Trist is really hard to learn, especially playing trist. The range that she gets make her good lategame, but you need good positioning and orb walking to use it correctly.

If you want to learn ad carry I would go with ashe. Makes you learn how to kite. (I'm terrible at it.) Also remember to always shoot at whatever is closest to you and trying to kill you, as AD you rarely 'focus' - you kill whatever you can kill without getting buttraped by the enemy team.

^ this this this. "don't focus tanks" to ad carry is a biggest bullshit you will hear. Fuck the haters. You are supposed to kill tanks. You shoot to whoever is closest. Kite whoever you can. Buy this goddamn LW and kill tanks. 90% of teamfoghts is a battle between your carries eating their tanks vs your tanks getting raped by enemy carries. If you can kill their faster you 2 shot squishies anyway. Trist advantage late is sick range. If someone missposition you can Q and do 3-4-5 fast hits shredding them down to half healths in seconds. Learn to attack walk with her. Learn how to jump early and how to jump late (tip: do not jump into enemies late, it's suicide). Her ult is hardest to use well though. She got amazing animation, use it as well. Only thing that suck is her E on smartcast being hard to use and not scalling as her attack range.

Ashe is hard as she offers no mobility options. You might do well early but you will suck in teamfoghts without godly positioning. Learn graves. Learn corki. Both are easy and fun and still top picks.

jungle : noct, udyr, naut
mid : karthus, annie
ad : graves, kog, mf
support : taric, sona

also i now realise that i have nfi how to play a top that doesnt rely on gp5's

I'm going to second Ashe. You'll be punished for bad positioning, over extending, and not knowing your enemy's summoner timers. You'll learn to harass inbetween the enemy's auto attacks/heal cooldowns. You don't have to worry about skillshots for damage, your slow is nasty late, and your ult is the easiest way to pick off over extending, solo roaming bads in solo queue. All these things are lessons you can then apply to other more skill based carries (Ez/Trist/etc)
