From the few videos that are available, it seems that lasers have an overheating mechanism. While the entire mech won't shutdown, it will prevent you from shooting when you hit the max heat level until it comes back down.
The entire mech does shutdown on overheat. you can also power down yourself manually to break target locks from anything that doesn't have line of sight to you.

I'm expecting this game to be good.

Even if it's not, I can still play it.

What I am worried about is the same thing I worry about in World of Tanks every time I click the "Battle" button.

Mouth breathing retards who either rush out and die, or camp in their spawn the whole game.

It's painful having to fight against greater numbers, take most of them out, and eventually succumb to the horde of masses. Then watch as your teammates impale themselves or refuse to aim and just keep shooting into the ground and air.

I don't play Tanks, I find it kind of hard to envision a playerbase that are all as totally inept as you describe and yet everyone always says that the Tanks playerbase are the most inept group of mongoloids known to man. Same for LoL. Maybe I'll understand when I finally get to play this.

    Founders pack (elite) - √
    Joystick - √

    Bring on August 7th.

My view of the founders packs is it's just a way to reward the loyal fans with some extra shiny's (and a guaranteed "you can play it now" date).

Same here. $120 out the door. Hoping both the Hunchback and Atlas are upright rape trains or at least turn out to be something like the Type 59/Lowe as in WoT. I play Living Legends from time to time but usually it's just a single server or two with a dozen players each side. Sad since it's a great game. Hoping this thing pans out well. Graphics look awesome for a Mechwarrior/Battletech game.

I swear I saw something on their page that said the specific variants of the mechs that Founders would be getting, but I can't seem to find it now.

Anybody know where that info is?

It's on one of the forum FAQs...this one:
    http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/150...-founders-now/

To save you time though, it is:

    CPLT-C1 Catapult (2 x LRM 15, 4 x Medium laser)
    HBK-4G Hunchback (AC/20, 2 x medium laser, small laser)
    JR7-D Jenner (4 x medium laser, SRM 4)
    AS7-D Atlas (AC/20, LRM 20, SRM 6, 4 x Medium laser)

If you need the loadouts for those, www.sarna.net

Actually edited base loadouts in, as I am bored as fuck right now.

Watched some videos about this. But regarding gameplay - how much different is it from WOT? Is skill a large factor? Also will teamplay be a large factor to win? I would love to play as scout but I fear the same thing as in WOT that you can do your job by just rushing in and scouting and then die in peace cause you don't have the weapons to damage anybody (except for other scouts)
    Neeeds a new signature.

Lights are better that counterparts in WoT, suiscouting is worthless and dying as a light pretty much never helps your team. Light wolfpacks are also incredibly effective

Teamwork matters, skill factor is there but not huge (at least from what I can see so far)

    Lights are pretty different.
Unlike WOT, where lights have tiny guns that can't hurt anything, in MWO guns do the same whatever chassis they are on.

Example, Jenner has 4 medium lasers. Those 4 lasers are exactly as powerful as the 4 on a catapult, or the 4 on an Atlas. This means lights can do PLENTY of damage, especially in packs.
As mentioned, suicide scouting is worthless. Stay alive, scout repeatedly, and do damage, and you'll be very worthwhile on a team.

Without being too specific... In WoT, penetration values means lights can't even damage many heavier tanks... in MWO, 4 medium lasers is 4 medium lasers. The 4 lasers on the jenner are the same as the 4 lasers on the atlas.

EDIT: ^^ we answered at the same time with the same example

You don't get access right NOW, but the August 7 date is still beta access. The game won't be "released" for quite some time after that. As discussed earlier, founders get priority in further closed beta selections (in July).

Okay so since the last patch I've been fairly impressed with the features and the feel, and am now backpedalling and may buy the $60 pack.

Not sure whether I want the Hunchie or Cat though. Catapult looks awesome and I feel like it's the best of the two, but it's probably the most popular and that hurts my hipster backbone.

Also anyone know if there's any drawbacks to creating a new alias and buying the founders on that instead of my beta account? (Or if a name change is possible if US/EU server split occurs). When I reserved my name I must have turned into a 12 year old at the sight of stompy robots and thus reserved the stupidest name I could think of

Can't think of any drawback tbh, go for it.

    Also, what's your retarded name?

As with any game in an incomplete state, it's really hard to tell how well things are balanced or how they'll interact or how the metagame is going to work out just because of how everything influences everything else. Even unrelated changes can completely alter the balance of things. e.g. in WoT, apparently the T-50 used to be nuts when it was first introduced. A lot of that was due to how the thing rubberbanded everywhere, and a lot was also due to people not realizing just how far they had to lead the thing in order to hit it. Some time down the road, a combination of netcode tweaks and more players learning how to aim at it, it suddenly becomes a lot less invincible than initially thought.

Speaking broadly and somewhat speculatively, there could be a lot of room for both skill and teamplay to be huge. For example, there can be a pretty big height difference between mechs of different weight classes depending on what mechs you look at and whos numbers you use. That means that if PGI so choose, they could take advantage of the separate arm/torso aiming thing and make sure that the tall mechs have a hard time bending down far enough that their torso weapons can hit close in short mechs. That would mean that if you were playing a really tall assault, you'd better have someone else nearby to shoot close in brawlers, as you would not only have trouble shooting them as they circle you, but you would also be effectively limited to arm weapons, basically putting you on even terms armament-wise.

And then there's a ton of really cool stuff they could do with the electronics and such that was talked about in that one video. But they've yet to announce anything more about that, so who knows if they've put any more thought into it than CCP did into incarna.

ill drop money on this, but if you F2P is it shaping up like you'd be at any noticeable disadvantage?
