I kind of see it as: People have been saying to them for a while, "Shut up and take my money", so they figured out a way to do it that gave some longer term benefits to both sides of the transaction.

You are developing a free to play game, people want to buy it, some of them are willing to pay twice what most games cost, sell it to them?

Ahh ok, fair point I suppose. I can see why they're doing it that way (they want to give as much as possible to people who have put money down on faith without breaking their servers) and I also see your point. You've paid as well and should get beta access as any other founder.

Also yeh, I couldn't really come up with a good argument for you (mostly because I paid $120 and I'm willing to wait) so I'll just point to what tulip and liare said

Yeah it's all fine, I accept the counter arguments to my point and I'm quite willing to put up with some rather minor shit for a good mech game.

This thread so so civilized I had to check I am still on the right forum. Totally praising rapongos mod-skills on this one.

I am trying to get my battletech vibe back by playing MegaMek (Battletech-TT in Java) until it comes out. Getting the shit to work is a pain already. I want my mech fix

    I don't sports.
I don't play, watch, care about or understand sports. At all. I do not sports.

A combination of veterans who flat-out refuse to let anything deviate from tabletop canon, irrespective of the fact that this is a completely different medium, and a those who've not done a thing with BT before and wish to mold it into something bearing little relationship whatsoever to the universe.

    Lines to walk, and all.

And the middle is full of people who will suck up to the dev team and say they love the game no matter what, which is the group that really worries me.

Do any of these groups have a clear numerical advantage over the others?

tbh, the slot system as it is will force people towards canon friendly designs, that means that going for a "closer to battletech" experience is perfectly viable and actually preferable, much what the dev's are doing already.

who the heck cares that the medium lasers are hilariously overpowered when all but a tiny handful of mechs can carry no more than four of the damn things and the few that do carry more are specifically designed to do so ? after all the Medium laser is quite literately the most effective weapon in the tabletop so why not let it be the same in MWO ?

because you have to stand in a lake to continually pwn with them or you will constantly overheat and shutdown.
If they don't overheat in the beta something is really wrong.

I distilled this to "who cares that x is OP, when only a few mechs are designed to be OP, it was OP in TT why not in this"

I'd discuss further but :nda: and mods appear to be deleting offending poasts

Edit: or were you just being sarcastic? Here's a preemptive fuck you just in case, and Iwasjustrollingnanyway

Saw Jolin posting, thought I had wondered in to the babe thread..

I also did not realize that founders pack people were going to get in the next round of codes. (It is however good news for me)

    Mech brosefs = best brosefs.

Tbh, I think everyone is unusually united in desperately wanting this to succeed and be as good as it could be.

pro tip, most canon designs are reduced to 2-4 medium lasers once the ammo runs out.

*shrug* i dont get the big deal here, there's a single hunchback variant carrying eight of the things, but it's mostly focused in a single easy to hit torso, once that's gone he's near toothless.

gimping the medium laser down leaves mechs like the Catapult even more vulnerable and thus degrade the appeal of that chassis and leave TT players like me raging their pants off, it's not a pretty sight that, least of all for the pants.

could they do with some adjustments ? yep, a outright severe nerf in the name of game balance ? no.

id rather accept a few mechs being trollishly overpowered in that regard, especially as dealing with a medium laser boat is trivial as soon as you start working as a team.

From the few videos that are available, it seems that lasers have an overheating mechanism. While the entire mech won't shutdown, it will prevent you from shooting when you hit the max heat level until it comes back down.

Or as soon as someone with a flamer shows up?

The Swayback really isn't that bad to deal with. it's pretty slow, short ranged, and loses almost all of it's firepower if one torso goes.
    Really not an issue IMO.

Then again, like Liare, I am a major TT fan, so biased as hell.

if people think the Swayback is bad, wait until they meet the Black Hawk/Nova Prime.
