Still haven't had time to play this week but am planning on trying Maokai in my first few games when I get time.

Can someone test something for me, does stacking 3 saplings (starting at 1:05) at double golems make them easy to kill? The route I did before was wolves, wraiths, golems but I got really low on golems. Was thinking that doing the route in the opposite order would allow for an earlier gank if poss and might be safer hp wise.

This is how i go with solo lane mao. I throw saps at minigolems, starting with dorans ring and 15 ap runes. You can kill minigolems without any help but it will leave you at like 150hp top. You recall to base, heal, and tp into lane with lvl 2 and 3 pots doran ring.

If you want to jungle mao this route is obviously sub optimal. I would say stack saps at wolves, kill them, go smite wright, kill rest with E/Q transit into minigolems and back to base. Should be much easier, i think with proper runes you can even do it with dorans ring first.

Yeah I was able to do it, but didn't like how low I got on golems. Being slain in jungle by creeps is one of the most embarrassing things that can happen to a jungler, I think we'll all agree.

Haha yeah. Tried jungle mao with mpen/armor/mr runes and ap quints, buying dorans. Going wolves > wraiths > double golems is pretty hard. First two camps are not a problem but the golems are a near death experience, where it's really really important which skill to use when (oom) and when to autoattack. Feeling pretty uncomfortable doing this.

I haven't died yet, but got to within one more hit from death each time. Maybe getting bot lane to pull when you get down there would help. The support could do it so carry loses nothing.

I hate not having time to play when I get these ideas in my head, want to try his ganks!

They can do more than pull them since the golems spawn so early they can throw you a few hits before going to lane before even one of their creeps dies.

Yeah that was what I meant. With a decent team it should be doable. It is only that stage which I feel is weak in his jungle. After that he just WRECKS camps. Especially Wraiths which he kills in one combo (E W Q)

That's a good point, I think I tried with with 9/0/21. Might try it with 21 in defence (or 20 and one in smite).

Runes I am using pretty much any red, ar yellow and ap blues+quints. Starting with a Doran's ring. As I said with this build I can still do a full clear with no help, but it is just a little hairy on double golems.

I think it would be easier with cloth+5, also going to try that.

Maokai is an interesting jungler, as I think it is pretty much impossible to leash for him, what with the sapling stacks to start.

start @ blue buff, start laying saplings @ 1:24, MPen reds, armor yellows, ap or ap/level blues, and ap quints.

i think i was trying with 0/21/9 or 9/21/0 - not sure though. cloth + red pots didnt work, because you run out of mana way too fast then. i think the key is that you need some more ap. i was running tanky ap runes (mpen/armor/mres + ap quints) which might be an issue. i remember i read in some guide to get ap runes, where i thought "that's too special, try it another way" - that might be the key.

If you are jungling, you need at LEAST 9 points in Utility for the XP masteries and some increased buff duration (imo)

Jungle Riven is super easy. Cloth + 5 start (vamp sceptre works but is a little risky), QWEE (then R>W>E=Q), 21/0/9 masteries. Runes I go with a mix of AD and ArPen (Stonewall reckons all AD is best as her skills have really good ratios). Armour Yellows ofc.

Double Golems up to blue (give it to your mid for props - you don't need it). Ganking is super easy, pre charge your q and use it to get into range for the 3rd hit. W after that and whack them with your mental early damage.

R is awesome for catching "the ones that get away".

Really like her as a champ, but doesn't scale into late game that well imo.

i know, i jungle most champs with x/x/9. i just didnt know if i was running 0/21/9 or something more "uncommon" spread points. don't really think i really went 9/21/0 would be a waste of a lot of stuff.

Been using Stonewall's route myself - vamp sceptre start, wraiths -> wolves -> golems, b and buy cloth and 2 pots, then full clear starting at blue.

21/0/9, skipping magic pen, QEEWW then R>W/E>Q. I have armor pen, attackspeed and armor runes, with magic resist blues, but any mix of armor pen/AD/attackspeed should work fine with her.

her scaling isn't actually that bad, good skill use means you'll proc your passive basically every hit and get the +50% bonus AD, plus all her skills scale amazingly well with AD (1.8x on her ulti slash if used properly, holy shit). 20% bonus damage when your ult is active ain't bad either, and your ult should be up for pretty much every fight.

Triforce is probably a good idea since you can proc it every cooldown and the stats+slow+movespeed are great. I've been doing OK stacking AD after that (bloodthirster/Iedge etc) and trying to time my Es to mitigate damage, but stick a little survivability in there too to make sure you don't get raped. Triforce is enough early, later on you might need a banshees or similar depending on the enemy team. Running Flash and flashing out to drop aggro then going back in can also work surprisingly well.

you could probably go early brutalizer to boost your damage, since all your stuff is physical the armor pen is good, but ghostblade seems a bit shit on her.

oh, and don't lane her, she has pretty much no range unless she's Q-Eing in and completely committing to the fight, which is NOT really a safe or healthy thing to do in early laning phase when your E cooldown is too long to reliably get out with.
