Support is the only role I have no real experience of playing. Which supports should I learn? I own pretty much all of them and could buy Sona (whom I think is going to be the recommendation) if needed.

LoL(EUW) - Auhal
PS2 (Miller-EU) - SRTroN
Most common supports are Janna, Sona, Soraka, Taric, Alistar. All have optimal lane pairings to work with, will write more when at home.
'I'm pro life. I'm a non-smoker. I'm a pro-life non-smoker. WOO, Let the party begin!'
Sona is easy mode support. And has the best aura choices. Want speed? Press E. Want MOAR DAMAGE? Press Q, instant Aegis of the Legion.
She's probably my favorite of those. Still bitter they put Muse Sona on sale three weeks after I bought it full price.
Taric and Alistar best supports and hardest to utilize well. Sona and Janna easy, sona more sustain, janna full aggresive. Soraka derp omg i click a spell and did my job easiest one. Blitz, Mao, GP, Lux also pretty good but with no sustain.
About what I figured. I usually B about the time I have cash for philo and boots, but I like having enough sustain handy to not need to right away if the lane situation wants me there a minute longer. Manip was curiousity - it's a nice direct support item if you've got the right pairing, but I figured it'd be inferior, was just wondering if anyone actually did it. Suppose that if you really wanted mana sustain, you'd just run Soraka. And Voul, I'd like to see that guide.
Pretty much. Sorakas mana restoration makes a mana manipulator look almost pointless in comparison.
On a side note, I tried out the tear build I saw locus go with on Sona last night, and my gut reaction was you really need an extended laning phase for it to be any kind of ok. So for pro games, awesome, great idea, but if your moving into where I would say the mid game is when you've lost a couple of towers, have one or two of the enemys down (or not, bad games happen) earlier on (15 mins was when we hit this stage) it's less great.
Loving supportcrank atm but starting fairey charm doesn't help your mana use early on since it tends to get used in big bursts not sustained use, mana crystal is just not suitable for a support build.
ATM am rolling
gp/10 quints, armour yellows, mana blues, armour pen reds, 0/9/21 cv and flash.
charm, three wards plus pots.
pilo stone + boots
avarice blade
tear/sheen (depending on cash if nobody is dying in bot lane you picked the wrong support)
manamune and shroud/frozen heart.
D&D is where I learned that a longsword is a one handed slashing weapon.
I might start giving supportcrank a go, need a really aggressive ad carry + early ward and then you can just punish the enemy ad carry so hard
I'm really partial to running Leona support.
The problem with that is it means even less money for wards and pots at level 1, blitz needs pots and everyone needs wards, it still doesn't deal with the small pool and it delays your first gp/10 item and blitz benefits to much from having some spending money to do this IMHO. maybe swapping out the reds or yellows for flat mana might work and build a avarice earlier for late game ghost blade.

I finally tested Sona.
She's totally awesome, finished the game with 5 kills, 0 deaths, 40 assists.
Core item on her is Tears/AA Staff. She spams so hard even without CDR, it's silly not to get extra mana so you can continue said spamming. I'd get Mejai's too, it's pretty easy to maintain the stacks with her. And getting a free Rabadon outta it isn't bad either if your team isn't derp and manages to get you to 20 stacks.
If you want to learn about support watch this guy.

He's EG's support player and probably one of if not the best in the game. He also commentates his matches explaining why he's doing the things he does.
Nope.
Tear and Mejais sound good, and if you get a couple of early assists and have the spare gold, go for it, but your core items are:
1) Gold per 10 items.
2) Wards.
3) Wards.
4) +1 Boots.
5) Aura Items.
6) Did I say wards?
Delaying wards and gp10 items for wards destroys your team's map awareness and dragon control.
'I'm pro life. I'm a non-smoker. I'm a pro-life non-smoker. WOO, Let the party begin!'
If you don't have 18 wards as support you're doing it wrong.
