i think valve would of adopted riots method of unlock through playing or pay to get now if they thought there was more money in it than grabbing as much of the market share as possible

Yeah exactly my thoughs. Anything same or worse then Riot method of payment would be a Valve suicide. They could have not use one payment for content like Hon did as they saw a failure of it, they could not use pay to unlock champs as it's same method that Riot established as it's not a next step. They had to do something more (or less in this matter) so they let us have all heroes from beginning and make skins and small things to be unlocked by the "ip" like points. I just love rivalry in markets, no matter how it's going to work out for Riot or Valve, we are the winners of that competition. Especially if you like both games

There was (maybe still is i havent played since update) a string in valve console that seemed to indicate an option to let u make cosmetic changes clientside only

indeed, but i honestly feel like i could commit to only one game of this kind at time, and that's way i would really like to try DOTA2 in short time

and i must say i have a bad feeling about this "beta", mostly because of this FAQ paired with valve time:

Technically none,you can get everything by just playing the game, but spending $$$ increases IP(or whatever the currency is called) gain significantly. Those rune thingies cost a fuckton of IP and god help you if you need to grind a full runepage.

Would be great if you could disable cosmetics, or at least community cosmetics since current valve one are quite decent.

tH you can neg rep me all you want but there is no part of LoL that requires money to unlock. It makes it faster but you cannot buy an advantage.

On topic, I like the way that Valve seem to be going to monetise Dota 2. If they can be as successful as TF2 then all power to them.

Well, bought 1 key and got one of those "strange weapons" that counts kills for Juggernaut. Guess I'll have to try him some day. You also get a item set for witch doctor on your first purchase.


They are quite clever at VALVe, 99% of items are very cheap and sets cost like 2-3€. Sure you can get them via drops but I've played over 10 games since the store patch and I'm not even halfway to lvl 2. As long as they don't go full derp on the silliness I bet they'll sell a ton of cosmetics.

Well LoL is a whole lot more casual than Dota so there's a bunch of people there, i guess the choice of aesthetics make a difference too.

if it's like TF2, strange and unusual items won't drop, they can only be unlocked from crates. conversely you're guaranteed to get something at least strange when you unlock a crate.

juggernaut is quite fun, very easy carry to play especially with a good ranged support. (CM gets special mention)
