So, I've been gone for a few years now (and doubt I will return), but still wanna know whats happening in New Eden.
Low sec fixed? Is there still just a big ass blue donut and titans dropping on all roaming gangs?

Low sec fixed?

Big FW patch dropped end of last year that sparked a revival. Snuff is still doing snuff things, but mostly looking up.

Minor movements and exchanges in whose pets are holding what regions, but still same old stagnant bs. Best roaming is had with filaments or wormholes, you just have to know the response times for standing blob when you get near a major staging.

Active numbers are going up for the first time in years, so either we bottomed out and this is where the server will be at or new player retention is working. Only CCP can tell and they are not going to.

Somehow we managed to get the tournament back again and it seems pretty stable within the organisation, fingers crossed...

The real hotness in lowsec is in Turnur right now (imnsho), in case you missed it CCP turned it into a mini-Thera where wormhole spawn density is way higher than normal, so there's almost always a connection to an interesting part of space. LiP lived there but after a couple actual Good Fights TM they bitched out and started relying on faxes so we bullied them out of the system (their words).

Pochven is hopping again, and people actually fight over the flashpoints in there. You can get a p. decent straight up battleship v. battleship slugfest most nights if that's your thing.

The only thing interesting about the blue donut is that Frat continue to burn every group that's willing to give them the time of day, but no one wants to really make a push on their space because ~TZ~.

Those lunatics in Reykjavik have only gone and done it. EVE Online developer CCP games has always had an element of self-knowledge about it, and a unique relationship with its community, who love and loathe EVE with a life-overtaking ardour. One of the long-running gags about the game is that it's really just "spreadsheets in space" and, after announcing the collaboration a while ago, EVE Online has, 20 years after release, become the first videogame to seamlessly integrate Microsoft Excel, the world's favourite spreadsheet software.

Excel is now a free add-on for EVE Online, and "enables you to effortlessly access and analyze your in-game data across all your accounts and characters". On the latter point, I was a non-serious EVE player and had multiple accounts and characters across them, so you can imagine just how much data the big boys are tracking. Once imported Excel will allow you to "create custom reports, graphs, and charts to gain deep insights into your in-game activities, track your progress, and strategize your next steps".

Any EVE player knows exactly what that means. Get ready for the corporate presentations! When I flew there was one wing commander who'd occasionally take a squad out, check our ship fits thoroughly, and make us all do roll call like a school assembly before the first warp: imagine what such a mind will do with this power.

CCP says, somewhat optimistically, that this new tool "brings added fairness and accessibility to everyone". And it really is a first, don't take my word for it:

"CCP Games has extensive experience in the MMO space, so it’s only natural that we collaborate with them to launch the first-ever native Microsoft Excel add-in for a video game," said Catherine Pidgeon, Microsoft's head of product for Excel. "We’re excited to see how players of EVE Online of all skill levels can use Excel to streamline data management and take their in-game experience to new heights."

So if you want to, ahem, "become the data driven capsuleer you never knew you needed to be" the EVE Excel add-on is available now. It tracks various in-game data including your assets with location and item value, market orders, item market prices, wallet transactions, skills, and if you have the appropriate roles integrates with corporation finances. There is even, amazingly, a sample workbook on CCP's site for wannabe space accountants to get started, an EVE Academy guide to using Excel, and a new topic on the EVE Help Centre about it.

Wait till the spies get their noggins around this one. Well, I suppose at a single stroke this kills every "spreadsheets in space" joke stone-dead, and is a pretty tremendous example of owning and leaning into your game's foibles. You just know it won't be long before some nerd works out an obscure trick that lets them bankrupt a corporation with this and, as part of EVE's ongoing 20th anniversary, there are few more fitting birthday presents.

I resubbed and a few things I've noticed:

Game is now full of f2p shit, daily login / quest rewards for SP (wat?), boosters that give +10 stats, skill injectors and that kind of garbo. I think adding all this instant gratification stuff to a game like EVE is a mistake. Once you start down that road there's no going back, and it's especially antithetical to EVE IMO. I was able to fix my sec status now by just paying a bit of ISK. Convenient for me, but removes consequence thinking from the game (I think tags were added before I quit tho).

Abyssal filaments are instanced PvP in high sec that gives a ton of ISK, good job on that one CCP. Apparently the harder ones randomly kill bling fits, but that's still not ~content~.

Caring about the art style seems to have gone out the window, with super colorful skins for ships / structures that look totally out of place. The sidebar sucks now too, and has a bunch of f2p menus.

Jita -> Amarr is now 40+ jumps in HS.

I can't launch Warden IIs because T2 drones now require racial skills.

I'm poor.

Also read that CCP buffed Rorquals so much that nullbears were multiboxing entire rorq fleets and mining a Titan worth of ore in a few weeks, and then had to implement austerity measures that just killed the game faster. Then they made PI mats required for even T1 production, presumably to give more people carpal tunnel syndrome.

No idea about the state of PvP content but I assume it's shit outside FW.

In good news, goons finally kicked Mittens. Only took them 20 years to see him for what he is, or maybe EVE got more politically correct.

Goon is being harassed by another goon, lodges complaint with internal hr/dir org and is promptly met with their goto solution: kick+ban the victim. Victim has friends stand up for her and what should have been a minor incident to be quickly resolved escalates to chatlogs. Mittens finally gets his #metoo-moment when it is revealed not only that he himself is a creep (we already knew that), but that he was knowingly defending other creeps (Xenuria) as well. Some amazing drama on somethingawful/reddit later and we reach the point where no amount of Brisc-spin can stop even Joe Goon from seeing the reality of it all and Mittens is forced to step down.

I take pride in the fact that my EWA back in the day was the first (market) 3rd party tool to offer such a feature. It allows you to create what I called a "Virtual Character" to which you could selectivly assign data from all your real characters across allof your accounts. And then the accumulate data was presented like the data of one character.
