given that your result is rougthly double the expected value, i'm guessing he isn't getting 3.79 attacks with both weapons, but total attacks.

The reduced damage is already calculated, the dual wield skills still show averaged damage. Mark said it's a limitation of their skill system but they're thinking about how to fix that shit. And yeah, Frenzy stacking is not as good anymore, it's a much safer bet to get the notable named passives.
I got into the beta in December. Awesome game, gonna start a private league when they open up the option to. American servers are just a tad shitty though - the lack of an actual money-backed currency kind of exacerbates the complete lack of understanding most people in the US have of actual fair trade. Kind of sucks to see someone WTS'ing an item you'd like, only to have them demand an exact and absurd amount of improvement items for it.
Messing around with a new Templar char.....using Tempest Shield, Molten Armor, and Shield Charge/Lightning Strike. Here's the build thus far....

Since lightning strike is going to be your bread and butter, don't forget to pick up the whole Catalyze cluster which will practically double your damage. The projectiles from LS are affected by weapon damage so it'll considerably up your strength. It won't be affected by spell damage though so you should probably spec out of those points and take the route via node 1219 to stay connected to the celestial walker bit.
Catalyze doesn't affect either buff....I know it's crazy to base around it, but was hoping to focus on those abilities. Maybe it's just best I sit on this crazy idea until they re-add back in the reflect damage curse.
Another thought is how silly strong Lightning Strike and Power Charges could be with pierce and those "always crit" utility flasks. They've said that if the melee hit crits, all the projectiles crit....meaning all the targets would get "shocked" which doubles damage. Hmmm...

My first character was a templar, and i was going fairly tanky, but then found a boss in the prison (on normal) that had heaps of resists and regen, so i could only damage him with heavy blow until i ran out of mana.
Then I made a bow duelist. So much better!
I have a question though - is the Shore Encampment meant to be that laggy? Sometimes I get lag spikes a few seconds long and the F1 screen shows that it's in the latency section (Australia on US server). Is there a way to fix it?
I have 67 or so templar.
Templar has several problems.
My main gripe is that shield + weapon is not good at all.
Why ? Well main problem is that in normal difficulty it will make you more survivable but you will have so bad damage that you will end up killing everything more slowly thus you will be in constant damager of swarms of enemies.
On mealstrom i can tell you after this last patch i took templar best shield i could find and all point i could into tanking with shield ( that was reasonable close to my main points ). It was waste borderline useless points because it moved from 5 shotting templar to 6 shotting templar eg you are squishy ... very squising with or without shield.
The fact to the matter is that templar is supposed to be relying on shield / armor + energy shield at least in theory ( as some its options ofc ). Atm i think that gear is just too weak ( mainly lacking in armor compared to regular marauder armor ). So you will be squishier then duelist anyway even with shield. So if you go shield you will have to go full armor and no chainmails and crusder shields etc. So no energy shield focus so body and soul is ( even tho great point ) not doing much.
Main thing is , even if you go with shield , dont spec anything into it , it is not worth it.
The way to be survivable as templar on mealstrom of chaos is just to go minions. I had ~10 minions and was going with staff ( even tho i guess mace damage could have been potentially better ).
In general just go full damage and minions and you will be fine. IT is sad that it works like that but i hope they look further into making sword and board style for templar more viable. That means that it actually can tank a bit later on without wasting too much damage. Atm you cant tank later on and damage is very bad to say the least.
SO main problems in my view are :
- chainmails and such ( armor + energy shield ) are lacking in basic stats ( mainly armor ).
- shield skills are expansive in points and dont provide any significant survivability boost in reality but do reduce you overall damage considerably.
- lack of shield skills.
That is my view , maybe i am mistaken somewhere. So i dont say it is imposible to play like that. But it is far from enjoyable at least for me.
