I scored a key for this and I'm having some troubles. Trying to play ranged characters is being no fun at all at low levels. Kiting things is tedious as hell when half the things you're running from are faster than you and you have no health at all and the desync is unpredictable (and you're often stuck in tight spaces). What kind of tools are available for keeping distance and what how do you get them?

Trying to play a witch or the bow class is pretty not-fun right now.

    Hold shift, receive bacon.
By holding shift you can atack your enemy even if you can't click him (it...whatever).

    Also: AoE: Bow:Lightning arrow
    Casts: too many.
Ranged is p easy till act2 cruel. And even then it's easy as hell if you stocked up on some lightning resist.

Keep trying, it will come to you.

Finally gave this more of a try after getting pretty bored with D3. It's quite fun, character development seems miles ahead of every arpg I've played. Got a witch up to lvl 12 or so, killed the first "boss" in the prison. Also died a few times in the area, turns out being swarmed is bad for a caster, who would've thought

I have one question though. While playing my bear trap skill gem leveled but I didn't immediately click it to level. Soon after I got some other skill ready and leveled that. Then I couldn't level the trap anymore. After inspecting it later it seemed my dex was too low. But I did have a choice to level it before. Am I imagining things or is this somehow possible?

Leveling up skillgems is based entirely on your currently available attributes, which means that you can equip armor or weapons with statboosts which allow you to level the gem. Keep in mind that you still need the prerequisite attributes to actually use it afterwards, so simply changing gear (and swapping back) to level gems is possible - but you wont be using them afterwards.

Maybe you had different equip when you tried to level the gem?

Also (if i read this completely wrong) if you just removed the level up buttons on the right and cannot see them anymore, you will be able to level the gems through the inventory screen directly. The pop-up on the side of the screen was made for conveniences sake and it will only show up once - if you remove it without leveling up, you will not see it again for this particular gem because the game assumes that you dont care about the gem.

Also 2 week hc race league with prices starting today. Killed the new chapter 2 boss yesterday, doable but a few hairy moments.

Gonna buy this simply for the reason that since I gave shitty BlizzardVision way too much money for shitty fucking D3, these guys more than deserve their share.

Having played it a bit over the weekend too - it's terrible.
Graphics are dated, effects are dated. Hell even the UI is B-movie Quality, and the less said about it's sound the better.
Am I hitting stuff? (no you spend the first 5 levels missing everything) Am i moving? (no you are not because i didnt' register your click) Am i being hit? (probably but who knows?) How do I tell? (Oh you focus on the little bubble down there ysy)
I'd say it plays worse than titan quest at the moment.

I mean, it's not awful, but it's so far behind D3.
    (IMO YMMV etc).
No. A Rhinoceros is not a fat Unicorn.

It's basically the anti-D3 currently. A bunch of great concepts but terrible polish

    (also TQ played fine)

i <3 TQ. I suppose comparing PoE to it is pretty mean on TQ.....
(i forgot to talk about the inventory issues, waypoints, and horrible identify mechanics.....)

Aye, it's funny how widely opinions can vary.

I find PoE's graphics vastly superior to D3's Cartoonyness (same goes for the ultra-cartoony Torchlight, even worse in the loks dept IMO). Grittier, far more realsitic, dark as hell (a good thing). More D2 than D3 (also a good thing). I didn't see any problem with the effects compared to D3, especially since D3's effects are basicly "lots of pretty colors in a mad shap[eless jumble of confusion".

I didn't encounter any of the movement or being hit confusion you seem to have, so can't comment on that. UI is definitely old school (a good thing IMO as well), skill system is IMO brilliant (tldr is "be whatever youw ant however you want, massive skilltree of Final Fantasy similarity). Loot Flasks > Red Bubbles of Health for the Lazy in D3. Quest UI is ok, not great, tho. Could use polish.

Inventory system is supposed to be this way, thats part of teh challenge. Same for Waypoints. Like I said, old school.

I think it's a far more accurate D2 Successor than D3 is, tbqh. It's what Blizzard should have released.....in 2005.

With that said, it has something else going for it. It's free. It's deep. It's long. It's old school. It's replayable as hell.

As you say, opinions will vary, but I'd suggest to every old schooler who found D3 to be less than expected to give PoE a try. Nothing to lose but the time invested once it's released.

This was definitely my opinion of PoE, great ideas but almost zero visceral feedback which for me is extremely important.

(TQ was a chore to play all the way through, though)

Itiken, i think you might have played at the wrong time, servers gave up a couple of times this weekend due to load. Was still playable tho for me, except for a few desyncs and some minor rollbacks due to dying hamsters.

What i love about PoE is the amount of thought they put into it. IMO the devs really understood what made D2 what it was and then expanded on that. The flask system is so much better then buying a shit ton of potions, specially when it comes to pvp. White items are not just useless trash, the amount of customization is worlds ahead compared to D3. The league system is awesome, you will be able to create a private league with your own rules and invite only, or events like the 2 week hc race right now. They are still polishing act 1 & 2, saw lots of little new details here and there.

Gonna try to get my duelist to 50 or 60 for some massive orb rewards in the current event.
