In March one of my colleagues started going shooting regularly so that next March he qualifies for a sports shooter license. He organized a little session with an instructor today for a friend of his and myself. It would be Glock 17s and basic firearm drill and some IPSC style shooting.

That was my first time shooting a real firearm, and even before that the most was a pellet gun twenty years ago.

It was really interesting, fun and I am looking into doing the same thing as my colleague: join his shooter club, go shooting for a year and take the firearms safety/general knowledge/gun law course (takes a weekend or two IIRC).

The instructor was ex-military and quite happy with how I picked up his instructions and generally my results - warning: bragging mode engaged - I managed more hits on target than my colleague.

I also figured out that my hands are tiny - couldn't neither properly hit the mag release nor (dis-)engage the slide stop. A single stack would probably be better.

I will have to ask for a session on rifles though.

shootings really fun tbh joe, you should try some clay shooting or something too. it's also nowhere near as expensive a hobby as people imagine, or as inaccessible

Can confirm this. Clay shooting is fun, especially with friends.

I pay 0,22€ per clay pigeon at my gun range where i am member (its 28cents for nonmembers). A 25 pack of 12ga ammo is around 5,5€.
Should be able to get a used over and under or side by side shotgun for a few hundred euros.

Or you borrow one at the range for 10-20€ for half a day or something to try it (and get hooked).

Do it here, so that you learn it properly, not far from Berlin:

Will keep it in mind but will have to coordinate with my colleague most likely because he has a car. Also that's the first weekend after the new school semester started, usually not a calm week at all.

And I can't make 3pm on a Friday at all. It's a two hour trip to get there.

That said, I'll keep it in mind if we find a more suitable range of dates.

Suppressor won't help that much on an AK, but it will somewhat reduce the risk of hearing damage to the user/bystanders in case their earplugs fail.

Why is a can not helping much on an AK vs other guns?

Also your using it for hunting, right?

Read about them changing the laws in Thuringia to allow hunting with them. I take it they already are legal in your area?
Or is that a case of "they don't care if I do"?

No idea, that doesn't make sense.

As for hunting guns, AK would not be my go-to, though it would do the job for deer and smaller

Well, not many intermediates work for bears. Otherwise 7.62x39 is an excellent medium hunting round i hear.
