Interesting thing:

The bank notes are from the time of the German hyper inflation of 1923. The first note was worth one million marks, the second was worth fifty million marks. As you can see, the quality of the art and printing got worse as they printed more and more money. The highest note was a one hundred trillion marks note. Eventually they issued a new currency called Rentenmark (pension mark). The Rentenmark was backed by 6% of all of Germany's real estate property.

Nope, AK's in freedomland have an altered sear. Now it just means glorious comrades in Russia lose out on work.

It's not like everyone and their son were making unlicensed copies since the dissolution.

Just remembered that importing receivers was banned some time in the 90's. Basically the guy in the article decided to start manufacturing the rest if the rifle. There is another company that has been doing that for about 15 years now. The cost of importing parts has increased over the years to the point that national manufacture makes sense. I forget the name of the company but there has been 100% US made AKs being sold for about ten years or so.

After a quick peek the answer is no there have been a few "attempts" which I consider hype as the companies all seemed rather deep in the airsoft markets. None of the companies attempted to do the standard build a receiver and order the parts. However, it has a built in sound suppressor which would make it unobtainable outside of military/spooks and a US made version would require the removal of that system which basically means it isn't a VSS. Essentially if someone manufactured it in the US they told no one because they can only sell it under the table illegally.

Weapons with integral suppressors aren't illegal to own and you only need a form 4 to purchase one. Integrally suppressed .22LR's are pretty popular with the suppressor crowd. It's usually easier since you buy from the manufacturer who helps with the transfer rather than a reseller. The thing that would prevent it from seeing any real sales would be obtaining the ammo. No one makes 9x39 for any other weapons. The reloader crowd would have a field day but manufacturers wouldn't see enough interest to warrant making the stuff in bulk. That's what killed the 6.5mm and what's killing the 6.8mm and 10mm calibers.
