    Re: Photography Megathread

I've been big into photoshop (CS in general TBH) since high school but i've never actually bought my own camera and started shooting.

I know the theory behind it all and have taken photo classes but as i said above have not done it on my own.

I'd like to get a digital camera that offers flexibility when it comes to settings and lenses but is not dependant on having a lot of lighting equipment as well.

Don't care if its new or not I just need to know what I should be looking for.

P.S. let me know if you guys ever want anything shopped or something. I do it for free and fun.

Nice shot, especially at that slow of a shutter speed. Bet you were bracing your camera on the aquarium heheh, otherwise you have some steady hands

    Tripod.

And the shutter speed isn't that slow, 1/80s at 28mm focal length is rather easy to hold even without turning on the image stabilizer.

Longest shutter that I have done so far without a tripod and still relatively reasonable shake/blur was a few weeks ago fooling around at a billiards league match (click for slight biggening):

Not too bad for free handed 2 second exposure, imo.

I don't do any post processing. These are off an older Olympus Stylus, little pocket camera thing. Great because it's waterproof and fits in my pocket.

This is a lake in a volcano in Equatorial Guinea. We hiked 2 hours to get to this spot, then down to the lake and went swimming. Water was cold as fuck.

Pretty much the same little pocket camera, an older version though. This was in the Gulf of Mexico. The reel is loaded with a 7" steel pipeline that has a 2" polypropylene sheathing. We were waiting for the weather to calm down so the pipe could be safely unspooled into the water. Water depth was about 7000' iirc. To give an idea of scale, the red parts of the pipe are about 12m apart, or 40'

    Re: Photography Megathread

I think I stated pretty clearly that was in the Gulf of Mexico. The weather thing is deceptive, we had to have like a 6 day window of 1.5m or smaller waves forecast before we could start. If you stress/fatigue the pipe too much you're fucked basically. When it gets reeled off there's a PLET on the end of it that touches down first, thing is huge and weighs in pretty heavy. I might have pics of the PLET laying around, will dig them up
