Well, there's a personal cost to that writer - now anyone who googles her will realise what a massive bitch she is.

Unfortunately, life is like eve in this regard.. You can be a massive ass but the rest of the population don't care and you can just move on..
In fact if she is trying to get a (new) job in journalism this would probably count as a plus on her record as she knows how to write sorties that get hits, and its all about the hit count these days.

Perhaps she's really that retarded and didn't know what a bitch move she was doing. But the Gizmodo editor sure knew it, how lucrative it is to troll your own audience.
can anyone explain me what this fuss is all about? especially in the light of pants-on-head-retardedness here in the comments?
after reading the article it actually boils down to just this argument: online dating is like advertising, but worse - there are some interesting arguments [e.g. from eva illouz] that online dating moved such intimate things as relations to something like a 'public' marketplace. it's less about meeting other individuals, but finding the perfect match for you - afterall online dating sites are quite similar in design and functionality to sites like amazon.com. in such a commodified environment the description of a person becomes actually a product description - leaving 'important information' out is distorting the 'ideal marketplace' and its 'perfect information'.
her description of finkel doesn't sound like the usual stereotype of the unwashed, smelly basement dweller (like e.g. it happened in german TV when one of the private TV stations reported from gamescom and used every stupid stereotype regarding gamers that can be found) but like a quite normal person, who has a hobby# that was a deal-breaker for her - and the shortcoming of online dating to account for this*
... so what are you guys all sperging about?
*) while naive it fits quite well the attitude promoted by online dating sites of 'relationships as commodoty traded on an open marketplace' - not following the rules of intimacy but the rules of the market.
#) thinking about it - maybe it wasn't his hobby, but his title ... afterall you won't become world champion in anything by just doing that 'something' only occasionally. actually you need a passion that borders close to obsession if you're doing something competitively on a global level - no matter if it's sports, e-sports or a competitive card game.
