Anyways this is supposed to be the minimum requirements:

• CPU: 1-GHz or faster with 2 or more cores on a 64-bit processor.
• 4GB of RAM
• 64GB of storage
• UEFI BIOS with Secure Boot
• TPM 2.0
• 9-inch or larger screen with 720p resolution
• Internet connectivity and an MS account. No offline installs.
• GPU compatible with DirectX 12

No Win11 for my Sandy Bridge laptop then.

Insiders can give it a spin next week apparently.

Those must be the requirements for the Home edition, I guess. I can't imagine that MS would make that a requirement for any corporate business.

There's some rumours that DirectStorage will need Win11 and a 1TB drive... good fucking luck having a user base for that any time soon, even including new gen consoles.

It will be adopted just fine. Remember how microsoft forcibly grew the windows 10 userbase in a few months to be a self-sustaining growth? This is a "free upgrade" just like 10 was, so expect 300 million installs after just a few months.

Depends on how many people have computers that can actually install the bloody thing... My i5-6600 apparently isnt supported. (I'm unable to find TPM support on the intel website). Im not buying a new computer just for a new windows install.

If i understand correctly, TPM is provided by a chip on the motherboard.

Apparently there is three options:

1. your board has got the chip,
2. your board has a connector for a TPM module like this: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards-Co...ories/TPM-SPI/ (sold out everywhere apparently, not big surprise)
3. no chip for you

I aint buying a new mobo/cpu/whatever and the workstation is more than adequate for my needs. If nothing else ill switch to some Linux flavour and that be it.

That seems to be the big discussion topic right now about it, but everyone who is actually just... trying to install it on older hardware seems to be managing.

It's almost as if what Microsoft describes as "minimum" would be better named "recommended".

Additionally, Windows 10 support doesn't end until 2025, at which point "non compatibile" computers will be close to a decade old, and quite honestly I have no sympathy for people who refuse to upgrade machines that old.

Caveat: I do believe governments should deem basic computers and smartphones and a connection a human right, and should have a workable minimum that everyone is provided with for free, if anyone is wondering how I justify that position when it comes to people who simply cannot afford it.

There's some nasty issues with CPU-based TPM. By default when you update the BIOS it'll erase the TPM keys and effectively kill the Windows installation stone dead. Some mobos provide a way to retain the keys by setting an option on first boot after the upgrade, but some don't. It also means (from what I've heard, not actually tested this) that a CPU swap will require a fresh Windows install as the stored keys are paired with the CPU that created them.

It's still better to have a physical TPM module.
