my new fun project: securing Outlook Anywhere with Machine Certificates.
I wonder if i can use IIS's features, or simply use IPsec (one does not "simply" use IPsec)
What are the kool kids suing for VDI these days ?

If you want painless startup and future scalability, consider Citrix VDI-in-a-Box.

Today was the first day after a extended weekend with lots of sun, and a Carneval in town (so lots of scantily clad ladies dancing about in the summer weather)
i started today's helldesk que at 33 cases, and ended at 25 cases (our target is 10-15 open cases at any given time, but there are targets and :managertargets: our internal metric is 20-25 and you're doing allright)
i am well ahead of the monthly "shit we get new people in, did we remember to contact IT and get them some kit?" curve, and for the first time this year, i probably wont need overtime to configure everything (department managers like to keep desks occupied, i often only get a 1 day window to assemble and test out 5-25 workstations for new employees)
nothing critical has broken down in two weeks, no massive projects consuming hundreds of man hours from the regular work, i even have time to faff about with less than critical tasks, and have energy left over after work.
so my question fellow tech(propeller)heads, what's wrong with this picture ?
Not working stupid overtime? You're about to be declared surplus to requirements and sacked.
the advantage of working in a company that requires security clearances is that you don't get bullshit like that, it takes literately a year to apply to the level somebody in my position need and until then the employee is working at 3/5ths efficiency. (still am atm)
it also means you are actually a valued member of the company, and that common sense management strategies come into force.
its just the whole "getting hired" process that is a combination of,
and
biting the back of my hand produces pain, you sure about this one ?
looking at some test footage from different cameras and my first conclusion is that the model is pretty good looking apart from the shot where she screws her face up like an old fishwife.
professionalism at its best.

Got a managed service company in to look over the network as they are taking over in August from the current managed service. When they start looking at the configs on the switches they ask for the password and we tell them, the response of "I've never seen a worse password" was quite fitting. Though it's better than the previous one which was the defaults. Hopefully these lot will prove better than the last group.
Could you provide an example of a password with a similar degree of entropy?

ps. we need a new boxshifter/tin supplier here in the uk as, like it service firms, they are all terrible and i'm sick of dealing with cnuts at probrand/insight.
for bonsu points - how do i boot a PC into a Citrix client to connect to our test VDI-In-A-Box server. I am not having clients log in, then log in, then log in. Surely there are better ways ?

Insight are proper shit to be fair, we get new account managers every 6 to 9 months. I believe they have lost a few of there staff to a company called Millgate, my ex-insight account manager seems a lot better and I get no stupid sales calls pushing something or other. 95% of the time they are the cheapest too. No website but email/call and you get a quote. They claim to be able to source pretty much anything too.
I also use a company called Bechtle Direct (ze German's) and they have been pretty good. Customer Service is brilliant too. Website isn't too bad but on some stuff there a few quid higher, but they tend to get stuff out sharpish and problems are rare. I was once waiting on a PCI-X expansion board rang them up and they actually shipped me one from Germany within 48hrs at no extra cost (I think my account manager was showing off!).
PM me if you want names and numbers of my account mangers.
Just google it - our company has a script that launches the citrix xendesktop automatically - I wasn't involved in any of it so I can't tell you the exact app etc. but we do it (might even just be a windows thing not a separate app) - Can find out more on Monday perhaps if I remember.
I think we still use Hastings1066 as our admin password, and that's after I changed it from AdminPass1
xxxcockgobblerxxx is the default password on dell stuff
