I have no idea what regular expressions mean but this this can make it for you. I figure someone here will get a kick out of it.

This system acts as a regular expression generator. Instead of trying to build the regular expression, you start off with the string that you want to search. You paste this into the site, click submit and the site finds recognisable patterns in your string. You then select the patterns that you are interested in and it writes a fully fledged program that extracts those patterns from that string. You then copy the program into your editor or IDE and play with it to integrate it into your program.

entrox's blog of desperation and fail entry #1:

well here i am, packing stuff up. i had to go to the datacenter to manually change some things on a new router we have since we finally got our /24 IPv4 block from ARIN, i got a new laptop 2 days ago but since i use a docking station at work i never tried using the keyboard. back to the preset i finish setting it up, i open up the laptop and hey, look at this the fucking A key is all fucked up and barely works. i wrap up and run uptown to go get my bags and what not and i figured i could call the apple store since changing the keyboard wouldn't take more than an hour buuuuut.... their earlierst ~appointment~ for today was at 2:40PM.......10 mintes before my flight leaves.

so here we go, i am heading to ecuador with a lolfail keyboard. i knew this trip was gonna be fun.

The new COO at my biggest client made me turn on white list filtering for all reception computers. I white listed some additional sites, and the user emails me while I'm onsite that she can't get them to work. I go over there and ask her to show me. She types the site into the search bar which pops up the Barracuda page because Google isn't on the list. I tell her she's got to type the site name into the address bar. She stares at me with a blank look on her face and says that she doesn't want to use it because she'll fill up the drop-down history list. We went back and forth on this for several minutes with her just not understanding the concept of the address bar at all. I gave up and allowed Google. They can now search, but it only does them any good if they want to reach about a dozen specific sites.

Again, I'm not in tech, but I've read articles describing user behavior where google isa command line proxy for whatever site they want. They just type facebook into google and hit the first return. There was a story last year where a site gamed the google algorithm and got ahead of facebook and people flipped their shit.

IT megathread (where are you ralara)

It's known as power googling. Where you use a google search to find a specific website that you had already decided you wanted to go to. It was initially meant to be uses with people not wanting to remember long and complex URLs but I guess it can now be applied to idiots.

i am now on the hotel.

its around 50 degrees atm so i'm p. happy about that. what did piss me off big time was that i literally had to run from the minute i got my ticket into the plane because they were literally closing the door as i arrived. the fucking moron that will be "helping" me is MIA, i am guessing his phone's roaming isn't working but i hope he died in a terrible accident.

tomorrow is the day my life becomes miserable.

Re: IT megathread (where are you ralara)

So, next week is going to be fun.

I move in to new apartment on saturday. New furniture gets delivered between 7 and 10am. Uverse gets hooked up at 1pm. I'm primary escalation for all of our microsoft clients except 2 bigger ones starting saturday, as my coworker/senior guy leaves for vacation.

Next week, coworker/senior guy is on vacation so im covering for him. This means I get to work with our worst dev to migrate an entire application to a new environment. I then get to do 2 deploys for 2 environments/clients I've never even looked at before. I also get to work with our terrible hosting company at least one late night to implement SSL offloading on a load balancer they manage (why their senior network admin cant fucking do this i dont know, he's tried twice already and failed). Again, i'll be primary escalation for all of our MS clients except 2. I also get to work on getting my security clearance as i'll be working 50% on our Federal gov contract eventually. So i'll be traveling to D.C. every month or 2 at least, but hey working like 2 blocks from the National Mall while expensing a 4-star hotel will be nice. I'll also possibly have 3 laptops... Work laptop, govt client locked down laptop, personal laptop (c'mon macbook air specbump!) :/

    Entrox's blog of MOTHERFUCKING A entry #3

The moron I hoped had died is alive and well, but he's still a moron.
I am here to configure both our avaya ip offices and he suggested I should go with him to the warehouse (where there's no ipoffice) so I can go look at the pretty cables.

Oh, and I'm posting from my blackberry because its been 45 mins since my ride should have arrived

Yea, I noticed the other day that New Zealand's "Telecom" has stopped putting their "www.telecom.co.nz" address into their tv ads and instead has just put "search 'telecom'".

Also, on the topic of white listing, I'm currently working as general desktop support for search and rescue coordination, so we've got drift mapping programs and the like which download wind and current data from some big meteorological websites. Kinda important right? lives at stake and all. Being a sub-branch (I think?) of another government organisation we don't have our own IT network, so they handle of the white lists, proxys and policy stuff. For some reason the other day, some anonymous admin in the IT team removed one of the ftp sites we get weather data from off of the white list, no particular reason, just must have decided it wasn't important. Funnily enough FHC gets through the proxy... for now.

Did it not start with AOL and their search words. Remember a lot of films had AOL: Mission Impossible as their web addresses.

You have no idea how many people log into facebook by typing "facebook login" into the search bar. Also, some users need hitting with a cluebyfour.

"I want to see pictures of women with no clothes on" is not a sensible google search. Likewise "porn" is not a great idea, you need to be specific.
