Block ICMP, firewall all the machines, multihome your networks, count down the days to retirement.

The creed of the network administrator.

    Hahahahahaha.. So sorry for you.

For reason I don't understand we are going through the process of swapping McAfee out for Symantec for our AV (Symantec eats up quite a bit more CPU for no good reason by the way). In the default deployment someone missed that one of the SEP components makes sure you have things like windows update running, group policy is working, and the firewall is running... So it turned all of the server firewalls on. Literally half the environment shat its self as DCs stopped talking to each other, applications disconnected from their databases, clusters fragmented up.. It was an awesome 5 mins until the tick box was found and turned off... The firewall is forced off via GPO (previous admins did this, I don't like it but I'm not changing it) so there is absolutely no configuration setup. The only servers that survived were the ones in our DMZ where we have actual sensible firewall configurations setup.

Dialled in to Windows 10 meeting so we can work out what the fuck is going on.. 5 mins past the start of the meeting and only me and the project manager have connected.. I suspect I'm about to get shafted with something.

Windows 10 update. I did not get shafted! I'm not sure how and this could still change, but so far I'm in the clear.

Also I just found out how the shared mailbox auto-mapping actually works at an object level in AD. Its REALLY simple and pretty awesome. (it broke and I had to fix someones mappings)
