    Eh?
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those Thukkers, that way I wouldn't have to have any goddamn stupid useless conversations with anybody.

So SCCM Applications. they are a bit of a prick to use right, but once you get the hang of them they are 'well loads better' than packages.
Nearly finished converting all 100 or so of our packages to applications. The MSI's were predictably easy, but getting all these booky exe and .bat installers lined up and working is a fucking hassle and a half, and I want to end it all. Yes i'm even putting icons into the packages so that the Application Catalog looks nice for the 3 users who will ever use it.

Future me is going to be very happy about this but atm: :wrists:

Staying up until midnight drinking homebrew then being up since 4am with the baby probably are not helping matters.

I'm not 100% sure what you are asking about either.. Its not just search order is it?

Itís where the name server returns a record that is dependent on origin IP. So:

    Www.fhc.net 176.16.1.10
    Www.fhc.net 172.16.2.10
    Www.fhc.net 172.16.3.10

And you get the one on the same subnet you originate from, so a query from 172.16.2.235 would get back 172.16.2.10, whereas a query from 172.16.3.34 would get back 172.16.3.10.

Sounds advanced.. So good chance you'll need a 3rd party tool in Windows..

Actually, I think itís built in. Thatís not to say most windows admins know about it.

Seems like MS refers to it as "Netmask ordering", when Round Robin is enabled.

Had to do a bit of wizzardry (eg invert a subnetmask and add it to the registry) so that it uses /16's for the subnet ordering as it defaults to /24's, but other than that it's workign utterly smoothly.

I'm sure it'll trip us up in the future but for now making my life easier.

DisplayLink is not DisplayPort. Its basically video over USB as a semi-standard.. Apple has broken the implementation in MacOS (or I think more specifically they have broken access to the features the drivers need to get this to work on MacOS). The devices themselves are fine, just MacOS just wont talk to them anymore.

This is only a big-ish deal because quite a few second monitors for Mac laptops used displaylink because apple stopped putting external display ports on their laptops a while ago. (This would also be the only way to get video out of a dock for a mac)

Fucking northern monkies & BT take-overs... what happened to you, Plusnet-I-knew-10-years-ago?

2nd line customer service dude's able to see a full password for a customer, to ask for snippets of it, yet it's the single password that's for web portal access (which can in turn authorise additional users per account), as well as being what's send down the fibre to the router upon setup. Apparently they've never heard of only storing one-way hashed passwords, and generating independant randomised passwords/keys for device authentication.

    Roll on (EU-driven) ISP regulations.

Edit: oh yeah, and the call was because they'd cocked up the billing, and then had the cheek to claim that the screenshot of the terms presented when the contract was agreed wasn't clearly indicating acceptance of them. Of course you can't go assuming every customer has self-documented the whole signup process, it's a bloody example snippet that something's wrong between customer and what support are seeing, so trust but verify the customer, go off and find out why you're promoting offers that your system then can't accurately track & apply!
And the problem doesn't even seem to be the simplest cause, of the acceptance being actioned the day after the offer ceased being the currently available one...

Storing passwords not-hashed is surprisingly common and not always a terrible idea.

Today I'm the only IT person on site.. I'm doing pretty well considering I haven't supported desktops in like 10 years.
