Well I got it. Glad I did, even though they'll get me again when another environment comes out... bastards...
It took me a while to figure out what the trophy countdown thing on the side was /o\. But all in all I think the Official Time mechanic is fairly well designed. It will definitely infuriate the junkies who make every millisecond count but only one in a hundred attempts are successful.
The game looks gorgeous compared to the original, the water is laughably bad and actually glitches for me when underwater (never change Nadeo), and the car is fun to drive and has enough depth in it for a challenge. Compared to the stadium indycar at least.
Oh yeah, for the keyboarders out there, LCtrl doubles as brake.
This look prety fuckin' good. Just need to get a pad for the PC. Open to recommendations.......
PS3 or Xbox pad work just fine.
It's not really needed. Trackmania is designed with keyboard in mind, and it works pretty well.
Yea the game looks great and then u fall in water kinda lets it down tbh...
Also u can rebind the controls to whatever.
As a keyboard user in the previous game i tried many times to use a pad but just couldnt match the times i acheived with keyboard (arrows and z key for brake)
but Tm2 with the weight of the slides i find the keyboard to lack the finesse required. i still prefer to play with keys as its simply what i know but i can often beat my times if i use a pad.
Enjoying it, but I do miss the precise-ness of the original. Canyon is more about finding better routes around each corner than nailing each corner absolutely on the dot. Good fun though.
Am enjoying this, I quite like the 5-min gap between submitting official times in solo mode, makes it a lot more of an event than a slow grindy succession of 1ms improvements.
What I'm less sure about is the leader points / ranking system, I might be wrong but it seems to be purely cumulative. Which would suggest that getting a high rank is perhaps more about playing a lot than it is about actually performing well...
In United Forever you gained points based on your performance and rank vs. the rank of others around you. e.g, when you were ranked 500k+ and you finish in between people in the top 1000, you gain a shitload of points, but the other way around would result in 0 points.

That sounds pretty messed up.
I used to use my PS3 controller it's not necessary but helps a bit.
