a shining beacon of quality posting in a sea of awful posting
Go play CoD if you want non stop mindless action. The Cersei story line made the episode worth watching, because lets be real, other shows and movies have much better fighting sequences and GoT is nothing special in that regard.
I present you how to make a low budget epic beach landing scene.
S02E09 fail to give me the level of epic this battle deserves and where is the chain? And then I realized in the book Stanis sails on a river to King's Landing and not from the Sea...
I liked the hound, the half-man, and the Queen's part, but not the fight... especially as it happened in the broad daylight in the book (AFAIK).
So budget is bloody not a justification for this shit 20 vs 20 battle. The Spartacus style blood spilling just worsens the whole clusterfuck.

Books only get followed half decently once they start raking in cash. Are you surpised?
The only thing that ruined it for me was Stannis leading from the front, charging the wall, first up the ladder.
Bitch would have died with an arrow in his eye two steps up the beach.
Didn't read the book, really enjoyed todays episode.
Read the book, enjoyed today's episode. Really the main storyline is being followed quite well.
I was not expecting a full out battle but more of a quick recap as soon the battle started like in season 1. Although the battle was OTT at some points (slicing skull caps clean of, sideways cutting through a ribcage) it was good enough. Stannis can be at the vanguard, not only is he a better fighter because he is of high descend he also makes a much better hostage than a dead body. I still don't enjoy Queen Cersei, loved the character in the book but in the series she is more bitch than paranoid it seems. Although this episode has showed her best performance until now.
I demand more Podrick Payne, he is the hero we deserve.
And if you really want them to follow it to the letter, read the fucking book again.
I'm sure it's frustrating to be sperging about how someone said "no, not doing that yet" - but we've had 7 years to learn to pace ourselves after killing a block. And I dare say -- we've gotten quite good at it.
Sorry if it doesn't suit the armchair generals who have never committed to anything for more than 2 months, but by now we've learned that we really don't give a shit about what you think v0v.
The fire was nice though, the battle was literaly "welp!" to much shit (Boat of eternal shielding, Stannis CHAAAAAAARGE!) looked just wrong. Rest of this episode was nice, looking forward to final.
P. much this. The Cersei and Hound stuff was awesome, as was the fire, but the battle just looked poorly done. Loads of soldiers are at the gates, Stannis makes his way up onto the walls and then Tyrion leads a counterattack by going through the tunnels. Then, suddenly, all the soldiers at the gate are gone. There weren't even any bodies littering the floor. It's as if they all fled and ran, but then where did the second wave of Stannis' army come from? And how did Stannis escape from the wall.
The whole battle struck me as poorly put together ... disjointed, inconsistent and, all in all, a disappointment.
Best part was the wildfire explosion imo, the hand-to-hand fighting after that was just never going to measure up, as much as they tried.
To anyone who hasn't read the book: if you liked this episode, you will freaking love the book version of this battle.
They probably spent their entire budget for that episode on the explosion and the off the wall sword cuts. I mean had they done the old fashioned blood bags and what not they probably could have afforded a lot more CGI'ed actors in the background. Hound chopping someone in half wearing armor? Armor wasn't for decoration. They wore it because it worked.
Was wondering how they were going to deal with Tyrion losing his nose. Pretty decent alternative.
Second wave of "Stannis" army was probably attacking another section of the city because you know back then people attacked lots of different places rather than just one section like retards.
Questions though I have are:
1. Stannis's sword Lightbringer was another but "light" in the sense it glowed like the sun.
2. They cut out quite a bit of the battle from the book with the wholeSpoiler:
As for the boo hooing about the levels of damage inflicted by swords considering some blades are "Valyrian" steel so its like swinging a fucking giant razor blade that won't snap.
If you were a superhero you'd be The Incredible Fucktard with your ever-ready sidekick Douchetard Boy. Together, you fight intelligence and common sense where you go.
I was sad to see that they cut down on the battle itself by a lot. I understand budget limitations an all but there was just so much they left out. At a glance,
Spoiler:
The battle just seemed lazily done. Obviously it's the storyline and the plot twists and subplots that keep me watching the show but I had just pictured it in my mind so much differently.
haven't watched it yet, but i think the original director for the battle had to leave at very short notice, and the drafted in guy had a) never seen the series and b) previous work included dog soldiers...
