The disappearing dragons:

I don't remember them being stolen at all. As I recall, Dany simply makes the rounds in Qarth, looking for anyone who will help her acquire ships to sail back to Westeros. Once she realises neither Xaro nor the other merchants will help her, she decides to visit Pyat Pree in the House of the Undying. Nobody else thinks this is a good idea, but at this point she feels she doesn't have a choice. My guess for the show is that Pyat Pree himself has stolen the dragons and Dany must go to the House to rescue them.

I called it.

Nice twist with the Thirteen as well, the Qarth stuff is definitely more interesting in the show than it was in the book.

I let out a little wee of excitement when Ygritte said "You know nothing, Jon Snow". The overwrought "northern" accents are still irritating me a bit but I'm pretty sure that's because they're all accents from places three hours drive south of me. Maisie Williams is bloody brilliant, her scenes with Dance (who it's worth pointing out is a top-notch RSC type) are fantastic considering she only turned 15 a couple of weeks ago. An emmy nomination for her really wouldn't be amiss. Was also nice to finally see a bit of Jaime in this episode.

C, its a huge departure but Im willing to put up with it, so I can enjoy the show as much as those that havent read the books. Dany sections past book 1 are shit anyways.

I really like Theon's parts of the show. He's the only one shaking things up, even if he sucks at it and is competing with Dany for narcissist of the year. His first mate also competes with Tyrion for being a clever sonofabitch.

Yeah, if you watch Theon's previous scene again, Theon says "I'm looking at being treated like a fool by own people, is there anything I wouldn't do to stop that from happening? I'll whip every man here until I have those boys," and the camera gives a meaningful glance at Theon's first mate. The first mate burns some innocent children so he can get Theon back on program. What I'm not clear on is how he managed to do that behind Theon's back when Theon wanted nothing but to catch those kids himself.

I imagine that he's doing a lot of general raping and pillaging on the side, he's a busy man.

It's diverged from the book quite a bit, but I guess he took the dragons for two reasons:

1. To call a meeting of the thirteen. It's easier to kill them all (well 11 of them) if they're together in the same room.

2. To lure Daenerys to the House of the Undying.

They have actually made the Qarth bits interesting, Theon's first mate is the fucking man and I want to do terrible things to northern redheads vagina. I love this show so so much.

He would have literally no reason to kill the Stark kids when/if he caught them. They're way more useful as hostages and he'd have to be pretty damn certain that Robb doesn't come back from his war, because he'd be in very deep shit indeed when he comes to hunt him down afterwards. Same reason Sansa is still breathing and Arya was searched for and iirc to be captured alive.

He would probably not hesitate to kill Osha, though, as she orchestrated the whole escape.

My call is, this is a bluff. Make the peasants (and the Maester) believe their little Lords are dead so they don't step out of line again.

Side note: The whole "We send two orphans to help you" with "Hey we're escaping past that dude we gave those orphans to" is pretty much a Chekov's Gun. If those buggers have no purpose, why bring them into play and if it's not them being roasted alive, what purpose would they have served? You could argue them being a Red Herring, but combined with it not being exactly the smartest course of action, I doubt that.

Side note 2: If it was the Stark Boys, there would be no reason not to publicly execute them for good measure instead of just hoisting the burnt corpses.

The only thing that troubles me is that in A dance with Dragons the thirteen of Qarth come back to try and talk "sense" into Daenarys. It just doesn't make any sense unless they make Xaro Xhaon Dakos king of Qarth and leave out the entire of the thirteen. But that messes up the boat story, or Daenarys ever remotely trusting him. It's a diversion that in theory adds some tension to the story it just fucks it up. Also it seems like a really crude trick for a supposedly undying guild of mage masterminds.
