One of the best things about the series is that it's spoiler immune. Even if you know what happens, the writing is so good at describing it that it's still an enjoyable read. Martin doesn't rely on cheap twists to keep people turning pages, he develops the characters well enough that they seem real, and the world is engaging. Also, most of the "spoilers" are telling which character dies next. The idea that "all men must die" is a major theme of the books. It's a traditional greeting. Being surprised when someone dies is totally counter to the main idea of the series. The question of death is not "if?" it's "how?" and the descriptions of "how" are interesting enough to make good reading even if you know the who and when.
AoI&F in one line:
Winter is coming, and all men must die.
"I think we could all do with sitting back a bit and detaching ourselves from the situation to really think about how these issues reflect on our future and how we discuss them here and be a bit less aggressive or defensive because everyone has a complicated set of circumstances that has led the to place importance on particular issues and it doesn't meany any of them is less valid, we just need to look at the broader picture"
