Maybe it's not just CCP.
A number of EVE mentions in the Slashdot comments as usual.

the latest eve sub count they published was in the announcement about the aura giveaway and at 388K subs
thats not less then the sub number they published in the QEN quite some time ago, but its not really more either.

TBH it's been a long while since there were this many -good- alternatives to WoW, so I'm not surprised people are trying out other games
Sort of sad 1mil subs lost is still 3 times more subs than CCP even have in the first place
As Xenosis said lots of other MMOs out at the moment and other online games like BF3 coming out to distract people until Blizzard announce another expansion.
Just be thankful, there is no mmo clone of Eve, risk pvp ftw.
I asked for some advice in a department store about a gift for someone special.
The sales assistant said "we have a beautiful selection of gold necklaces and diamond rings just in".
I replied "no thanks, the fucking spastic will just eat those, got any Spiderman bibs?"
Watch CCP attempt to turn this in to good publicity in 3.... 2.... 1.....

Couple of months after the major patch, not surprising that subs are dropping. Still have 10mil subs left though![]()
I meant space mmo's aswell as risk pvp.

Calling it now...
When World of StarWarscraft drops, WoW will lose (at minimum) another 1 million subs gross (net could be less, but not by much).
WoW-Clone with Star Wars and a Strong Licence and Developer, World of StarWarscraft won't likely be a "Wow Killer", but it will be a success short term.
Long term, time itself will kill WoW the older it gets, the less new gets added to it, amnd the more vets who get burned out running the same kind of raids they ran 8 years ago with the same guild drama et al.
Trion already beat them to it:

Ripard Teg (among others), Rote Kapelle
Jester's Trek, wherein I ramble about EVE Online, gaming, and geek culture.
Surely you're not accusing David Reid, a man of stellar integrity, of misrepresenting the facts?

Must be the new Google+ City of Wonder game that is taking all the subscribers....
BTW, anyone want to be my ally, I'll pay ISK lol.
I would like to point out that everyone who mindlessly repeats this stupid 12 million figure is a massive faggot.
No, really. Go find some numbers that aren't Blizztard PR including squiggly accounts which are based on a completely different subscription/payment model than "normal" subscription MMOs.
So what is their actual subscriber count then, oh wise one?
I didn't play WoW for a long time, maybe 3 or 4 months really active, the other times once every couple days. But when I was active shortly before and after Cataclysm, yeah good lord Cataclysm was shit. The worlds and all were beautiful and stuff, the ideas they implemented were great, the dungeons were good... But there was literally nothing to do. Took like 2 or 3 days to reach level 85, you could make gajillions of gold within days.
But the PVE was utter shit. Every single trash mob was half a boss fight, getting aggroed by 3 of them usually meant your death - how retarded is that. I personally liked the dungeons because they were hard as fuck in the beginning, in the end they were nothing but a nuisance (even more for healers). Especially in the 10/25 man instances: You did one single mistake over the 10-15 minutes a boss fight took and you had to restart the whole fucking thing (just because you can't see a certain effect under the 200 on the screen happening, even with addons sometimes). Not even gonna talk about 5 man random heroic instances, they were pretty much impossible to do because most people are tards.
And the rewards? They were ridiculous. This token shit, where basically every player had the same fucking items, because the only things worth wearing were those 2 different sets for each class.
Well now to the point, which is you can't compare EVE and WoW at all. WoW is developer content driven, EVE is player content driven.
If Blizzard fucks up WoW itself, then the players will stop playing it, since they'd have to cope with a shit game. The content is driven by NPCs who get killed by the players, not by players killing players (and the "PVP" is just ridiculous after you have played EVE).
Don't get me wrong, but EVE is a terrible, shit and bug-driven game, it's literally one of the worst games out there considering its usability and the time you need to invest to achieve anything. CCP is just lucky that there's no other game like it out there (lolperpetuum). The thing is, this shit game client is only the foundation of everything that happens in the game. The real fun comes from screwing other people, be it scamming them just selling their stuff to you underpriced, scamming them, or, the best, blowing up their shit which they won't get back.
No one has fun shooting NPCs (well some might actually) or trading, only the consequences that result from them make the game fun. Like spaceship pew pew and being smug about all the stuff/ISK you have.
