So the Tank of the Month (on EU server at least, dunno about others) is going to be the ARL 44. Nothing special, just that all month it earns 10% extra credits. I have about 3 million credits in the back, after spending so long in mediums I fancy playing in a heavy for a while. So, play IS-3 from stock, or pick up my ARL 44 where I left off and try it again with a fresh attitude.

ARL is the least shitty of the non-revolver French heavies, actually reasonably competitive. Also has two possible weapons to choose from if you wish for a play style change. Downside is that it's a tier 6 heavy and they all get crap matchmaking, so you'll want to pack the 90mm most times.
If you do medium companies the 105 is the clear winner, though. With the KV-3 gone there's no reason for the massive over-penetration of the 90, and the 105 has better alpha/DPM.
Oh god, playing the defense scenario on Prohorovka is just the most miserable experience. Half the team just sit and snipe from the hill that you start on, and are basically useless. Then, whoever goes down the hill just gets slaughtered, since by starting on that side of the train tracks, you have less than a third of the map to use, you can't really flank or do anything since the enemy team obviously knows where you are going to be. I don't think it would even be possible to do like a big "attack is the best form of defense" thrust, because first you would get fucked up coming over the slope and exposing your bellies, and then because the attackers have the whole 2/3rds of the map to hide or flank you with.
I think they should maybe have done something a tiny bit clever like redesigning the maps that are to be played in this mode, rather than just flipping the spawn zones 90 degrees. I mean these maps were designed to be played north/south mostly, right? They don't really work when you spawn east/west.
I don't think it's biased toward either defenders or attackers. It is however really really boring.
So the KV-5 is probably one of the worst of the T8 premiums (IMO), a BIIIIG front weakspot (R2D2 turret), below par gun (107 has nice damage but its pen is far too below par to be any use at that tier), slow and poor maneuverability. I guess its main selling point is 'gold tank' and one of the cheapest ones.
The Lowe is about the same on speed and agility/maneuverability as the K-5, but with a much better gun, armour is alright for its tier turret mantle bounces most things (my BL-10 has dinked off it a few times), no glaring weakspots unlike the KV-5, it does have the usual paper lower glacis and weak sides/rear like any german heavy.
The T-34 has a very sexy gun (the same gun from when it was a T9 just lower rof), speed and maneuverability are ok, front mantle bounces everything and the hull doesnt (watch out for arties, I have had some penetrating HE shells hit T-34s for 800-950 damage), but beware that the commanders cupola on the top sticks up a bit and has no armour so likes to get shot by half decent players
The Type 59 is a slower T-54 with the first 100mm gun (lower rof than T-44 but same damage), same armour, same model/weakspots, lower hp/ton so less acceleration and agility but all at T8 rather than T9.
I haven't seen much of the IS-6, from what I have heard it has a custom D-25 122, with better rof. Sadly 175pen at T8 won't cut it. It seems to be somewhat quick like the IS-3 but has crappy armour and a flat front so angling is necessary for any direct combat.

I agree. It was a sloppy job to just reintroduce the same maps as assault and encounter, with minor tweaks. Prokhorovka stands out as one of the more imbalanced ones in my mind. I don't think I've lost on offense yet, while only wining a couple on defense. Malinovka also stands out as being biased toward the attackers. Sand River is slightly skewed towards the defender, while Erlenberg, Kaleria, and Sigfried Line seem well balanced. I hope in the future, they phase out the re-purposed maps and add brand new assault and encounter maps.

Had a few matches earlier where I would encounter either 1 or 2 (they were platooned) and would proceed to take them out...
Then they ran away. And I couldn't keep up.
When my team finally caught up to them, they ended up killing 2 more tanks while in TD mode before we could bring the whole team to bear on them.
It's almost like I need a tank equipped with a gatling gun.
