Are they though? Console sales are probably going to be much higher than PC sales, and given the availability from most other digital distribution outlets as well as B&M stores, I seriously doubt they're going to hurt for sales if they won't put it on lolsteam.

The thing about "lolsteam" is that it accounts for more of the PC digital distribution market than all other outlets combined even by fairly modest estimates. In addition, EA will be losing out on any awareness they would create about games that they get by simply promoting them via the Steam storefront.

curious if they will keep the scale of BC2 for some of the maps. rush was surprisingly good for focused squad v. squad action on the maps where you could see.

also 32 on 32 rush with 4 or 5 mcoms would be especially lol/jizzworthy depending on your team.

hoping they don't go overboard with the snowstorms in houses this time

I can see that mattering for niche games or "lesser" games. Not Battle-fucking-field 3 though. Also, PC = niche market. Steam = niche of niche market. If I count on big publishers doing anything right it's considering their actions when it comes to decisions which earn them money.

As far as I know (I may be wrong) BFBC2 sold roughly the same on all three platforms, so PC gaming definitely isn't a niche market. According to estimates, Digital Distribution now makes up around 30 to 50% of PC game sales, of which (also estimated) 75 to 90% are made on Steam. Also not really "niche". So if BC3 not coming to Steam is true, it actually is kind of a big deal.

I have a feeling EA's strategy will probably work if BF3 and a whole bunch of other games are any good. Wasn't steam initially used to deliver HL2 and stuff?

Yeah they basically introduced it by making it mandatory for the highly popular CS and mega-hyped HL2. Can't blame any publisher for trying the same even if it's 7 years after Steam launched.

It's only a big deal if those people are Steam fanbois enough to not buy a box, Origin version or any other digital edition. And considering BF3 isn't exactly some unimportant niche title, I figure most people who want to play it will get over it and buy the game regardless of whether it's on Steam or not.

The problem EA and the other publishers face in a nutshell is that as the market shifts to digital sales they have an opportunity to cut out the retailer. Valve is rapidly (I would argue they currently are) becoming the gatekeeper that are going to make money off pretty much every pc game sale. Publishers have to do something or they'll be in an identical or worse situation that they are with gamestop/walmart. Think how fast steam has become the de facto standard for selling games on the PC, now imagine the kind of bargaining power Valve will have in 1, 2, or 3 years if no real challenger shows up. Dont want to pay valve 30% of the price in commision? Tough shit.

Origin pricing is a fucking joke
if you thought steam was bad on prices just lol at this bullshit
    NFS Shift 2
    £35 on Origin
    £30 on steam
    £13 on amazon

    bf3 pre-order
    £40 on origin
    £30 on amazon

now consider that origin is ENTIRELY EA, there is no publisher dictating a price to them or anything like that to use as an excuse
    what the fuck EA, srsly

Every shred of Battlefield 3 revealed by DICE so far has been impressive. So much so that the PC gamers among you have got to be wondering what it's going to take to run this thing. You may have your answer now, thanks to what appears to be an accidental weekend posting of the October-releasing game's PC specs on the company's website.

    Here are the specs:

    Minimum
Hard Drive Space: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version
OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7
    Processor: Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz
    RAM: 2GB
Video Card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card

    Recommended
Hard Drive Space: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
    RAM: 4GB
Video Card: DirectX 11 Nvidia or AMD ATI card, GeForce GTX 460, Radeon Radeon HD 6850

Pretty reasonable on the low end, and about what you'd expect for a 2011 AAA video game release for PC. Interesting to note that the disc version requires an additional 5 GB of storage space. That can't all be copy protection, can it? The specs may not be accurate of course, but it's hard to imagine this information popping up on GameStop's product listing without it coming from somewhere.

    Don't you defrag your hdds?

Also that paris subway rant is reasonable if they don't have to pay lolfrench for using actual city architecture.

    P.S.: Fuck steam.

5870 should be good enough considering my other hardware is pretty much brand new. If not ill buy some used GTX580 or something like that.

It's not the norm just yet (most games are still coming with DX9 rendering paths) but at some point it had to happen. Vista launched with D3D10 4.5 years ago and mainstream 3D cards have had shader model 4.0 support for a while as well, actually I would have expected newly developed (PC) games to ditch DX9 render paths earlier but there's obviously reasons for why this didn't happen as often.
