Recently discovered Morrisons has a much better selection of ales than the other supermarkets and thus it has become my supermarket of choice. However, the selection is a bit overwhelming and the lack of deals means I haven't tried a whole lot. However highlights include; The Dark Lord; King Goblin and Ghost Ship. Gonna start stocking up on all kinds of random ones for Xmas time to determine my favourites.

has anyone had this/is it any good?

also it seems like IPA's aren't nearly as popular in places other than the US, can the eurofags confirm this? I thought it was odd to see newcastle making one

I had a terribly long and work filled weekend. Got a six pack of this and enjoyed an evening of sitting on the couch in my boxerbriefs doing nothing.

    Lightbulb

Tesco's been getting surprisingly good on the beer front lately, with whatever their "local initiative" is. Got my hands on some of this, and it turned out to be pretty good:

King Goblin is also pretty nice, though I'd take this over it any day:

(I've started seeing this in 330ml bottles lately, at the same price as the 500. )

@HyJek, IPAs are reasonably popular in the UK from what I've seen, and there are a lot of good ones. Oddly enough, the guys who make one of the worst in my books also make one of the best:

This one is also excellent, and pretty easy to find:

Anyone open to the idea of a beer trade? I really want to get my hands on some proper trapist beers.

Er, where are you? From my experience you can pretty much get all the official Trappist beers except for Westvleteren without too much trouble anywhere in the world. Especially Chimay.

edit: yeah, I can totally read. Alaska can't be that bad, surely.

edit2: This place looks useful, they've got a bunch of Trappist stuff, and they ship to civilized areas of Alaska.

Yeah Brakspear Triple is awesome, though I like to vary up what I'm drinking a bit and I had noticed I was almost always putting some Triple in the trolley so thought I'd try some other strong ones.

Generally it means its a stronger beer in the trapist world.

Yaaaaaarrrr, a beer thread! Me happy.

For a good understanding of what a tripel (and more importantly, a quadrupel is) google! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tripel

Westvleteren Abt (the 12). It's been too long since I've had one. You have to reserve a crate at the abbey by phone, show up on time, hope they get to loading yours before they quit again and just.. pray. Maybe that's the point, come to think of it. They make exactly enough beer to fulfill their budget needs every year. And there's a rumour they make a 'special' they only hand out to guests. Must go there one time.

I have found that St Bernardus 12 is a decent (just that, decent) replacement for Westvleteren Abt. It's a lot easier to get your hands on. Beer.. lovely beer. So many stories to tell, so much to taste.
