Thus far, Romney's trip abroad has made him look stupid, insensitive and racists, and incompetent (he mentioned meeting the head of MI6 as well; rather a faux pas).

On top of that (and more important), standing next to the British, he looked bad, stiff, stunted, and frankly out of place.

I hope his horse does well in the dressage because thus far nothing is going well for 'Romney's trip abroad'.
horses? dressage? Yeah, I guess he really is just an Average Joe.

I love it how he completely disowns that as his wife's thing, while at the same time still trying to place himself on the same level as all the other 'olympians'.

To be fair, Mr. Title is a very common form of address in american politics, and Ed is the Leader of Her Majesty's Most Loyal Opposition. Cantor and Pelosi both could be reasonably referred to as Leader. It wasn't that he forgot his name, it's just that it didn't cross his mind that maybe american political styles don't apply to non-american politicians.

Unless he called him "cunt" I really don't care enough to find out.

I know. I just found it funny. Common, it is funny that he hadn't even bothered to check out how to properly address the people he was supposed to talk to.

I'm not saying it is a big deal. But it is indicative for the type of gaffs Romney makes all the time. Where it comes from I don't know. Perhaps he just doesn't care? Perhaps it is all just bad staffwork? Perhaps he has the social sensibilities of a mollusc? But he always seems to come up with something or other. And among the whole list of gaffs he made on his trip over already: he just looks like a fish out of water. A cold cold very slippery and slimy fish. Certainly not the way he wanted it to look I'm sure.

Let's face it, Romneybot is a much bigger gaff-machine than Joe Biden could ever be. I guess the US media hardly picks up on them anymore there have been so many. But you know, for the British press he's a godsend: something to laugh at in between the reports on the Olympian problems ...

It says so much about the GOP that Romney was the LEAST offensive of the leading Republican Candidates

Sometimes I wish somebody like Gingrich had won just to see the subsequent comedy.

Well, that foreign tour by Romney in order to look presidential is certainly paying off. Nothing says "gravitas" as being openly mocked by the British:

Romney's current antics in Israel are slightly disturbing.

Does this kind of crazy and apparently clueless stuff really energise his core supporters?

Are you really asking if hardcore jews are his core supporters or what? He's trying to get some jewish votes and money.

I was thinking more of the 'bring on the Rapture' crowd actually, although I guess they're not exactly 'core' supporters for Romney the way they were for GW.

oh. yeah some of those retards probably eat this stuff up, too. But I don't think he's doing this with them in mind. They'd never vote obama anyway. As per the article you linked, he put a meeting behind closed doors and is looking for a big wad of money from a few people. He needs to show the religious orthodox jews he supports them, too.

He basically does this to placate (specific parts of) the Jewish lobby, especially Sheldon Adelson (and his crowd). Obama is not exactly their best friend, and they happen to have shitloads of money and are willing to spend it to ensure the yearly multi-billion dollar handout the US gives to Israel stays in place (even though even Obama wouldn't dare cut it openly).

In a wider context: Israel and the Jewish lobby is the third rail of US politics. You touch it and you get burned. It is what ethanol subsidies are to Iowa politics, only now on a national level. Try winning a national election without Florida. And try winning Florida without the Jewish lobby. Naturally Obama sucks up to the Jewish lobby just as well. Romney is just taking this to a whole new level because of some Zionists with deep pockets have promised him hundreds of millions of dollars.

And let's face it. Without US Zionist money Bibi wouldn't be prime-minister of Israel, religious extremists wouldn't have enclaves and outposts on the West Bank, and Israeli politics wouldn't be held hostage by Jewish religious extremism either. The religious right in the US actually has a lot in common with the religious right in Israel. Not least that they're both fucking insane.

Romney also stated that Israel's economic success is due to superior Jewish culture when it comes to economy...
"And as I come here and I look out over this city and consider the accomplishments of the people of this nation, I recognise the power of at least culture and a few other things," the presumptive Republican candidate told his audience.
He proceeded to contrast Israel's economic success with that of Palestine territories, pointing out that Israel's GDP per capital is twice that of occupied Palestine...

Romney drew a comparison between Israel's economic success and the Palestinians'. "As you come here and you see the GDP per capita, for instance, in Israel which is about $21,000 dollars, and compare that with the GDP per capita just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority, which is more like $10,000 per capita, you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality," he said.

In fact, according to the World Bank, Israel had a per capita gross domestic product of about $31,000 in 2011, while the West Bank and Gaza had a per capita GDP of just over $1,500.
Shorter Romney: "Them Jews are sure good with money ..."

Remember when Obama went to Egypt and gave probably the best speech a US president has ever given about the problems in the middle east?

It is not that Romney doesn't ... can't even come close. It is just that he's a massive embarrassment to anything the US has been trying to achieve in the middle east since Bush left the White House.

I mean, what's next? He's going to disparage the architecture of the dome of the rock as well? Nothing like the temple in Salt Lake City right?

    Talking about salt.

Seriously. It boggles the mind. Who has he got to advice him on foreign affairs? Some of Cheney's old pals? Or is he really out to rub salt in every open wound he can find abroad?
