With all news media reporting on imminent entry of Texas Gov. Rick Perry into 2012 race, I thought an introduction is in order.

I can start with stories of Gov. Perry shooting a wild coyote with his laser-sighted pistol during morning jog.

I can of course mention persistent gay rumours that simply refuse to die.

rick perry's in a perfect spot, imo, he either gets the GOP nod for president being the anti-romney or gets to be the VP nominee if romney ends up winning the nod because he's a tea partier that's less crazy than bachmann.

if romney collapses gary hart style, different ballgame, but romney's too disciplined for that.

that being said he's completely fucked us with this budget he passed, the next legislature had better pray the economy gets better or texas is going to have to cut a lot more stuff

If he wasn't very good at his job, why has Texas outstripped all other states in growth even during the worst of the recession? While there's plenty of debate over his take on various social issues, his fiscal policies are pretty damn good right now. Also he's a damn good shot :

If he wasn't very good at his job, why has Texas outstripped all other states in growth even during the worst of the recession? While there's plenty of debate over his take on various social issues, his fiscal policies are pretty damn good right now. Also he's a damn good shot :

Yeah, Perry is an amazing shot according to that picture, he clearly must be aiming 2000 yards down range! He hit the target on the bullseye!
That's sarcasm, just to make sure it's clear, I don't mean to belittle anyone.

However, I really don't believe he's that good at the job. Specifically schools and police here in parts of DFW are always struggling to get state funding, and despite him doing his campaign visits and basically being able to handwave that shit, it doesn't happen. I realize that the state gets the money from the bigger state (the United one), but shit, he doesn't seem to come up short on campaign funding, ads, or personal expenses, does he?

Reading over his fiscal policies, he does seem to have a pretty solid record. But him being such a evangelical is an absolute deal-breaker.
