I trained perfect refining skills on an alt that's never refined anything. It can also fly a Hulk, but has never sat in one.

I did that too, wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Trained random alt 1234 to fly a covetor (in progression to a hulk), went mining, went afk for 20 minutes, came back, dead covetor, gave up.

It's more of a "I'M NOT SELLING MY STUFF TO GREEDY MERCHANTS FOR 80% OFF, I'D RATHER REPROCESS AND KEEP IT FOR MYSELF. MINE! MINE! MIIIIINEEEE" thing.

I should find a corp that does this more often since it's more than a bit dodgy doing this 'solo' :coolshades:

Logis are a great example of this, at 4 they are flyable, but meh, but at 5 you're saving people from asploding left and right with the godlike capacitor you suddenly gained. Triage is pretty boss as well and well worth it.
If you pvp/plan to pvp in a t3 all the time def get the subs skills to V. If not(ratting tengu), at least do offensive and defensive, at something like 3-4 days a pop it's not a huge deal. I suggest you look at what you generally fly and analyze if or not you'd benefit from fiving that class given the bonuses it gives, an example for a benchmark if it helps is the absolution. I flew them a lot in '09 with commandships IV and then V, and having both dmg and rof on the commandships skill it made a huge difference. Now I haven't flown one since then really, but I don't regret training the skill because it does offer a large reward in the bonused hull for the time spent.

For sure get the support skills to V asap. AWU V is amazing. Thermo V is meh, but since you should be overloading all the time the utility it offers adds up over time(what I mean to say is that it's not exactly instant gratification, but still really nice). Shield upgrades is another one that helps on maybe a couple fits out of a hundred(fits that are tight with LSEs will be a little nicer with SUG V), but I don't consider it a gamebreaker. Missile skills are dependent on if or not you actually use missiles a lot. My main for example has maxed missile support skills and rarely uses missiles at all except on odd specialty ships like the Huginn or typhoon. HAMdrake is fun(what is that draek doing... OHGOD, THE PAIN), but the only missile skills it really benefits from is assault spec and warhead upgrades/rapid launch, which if you use missiles a lot are the first things you should max anyways as they are analogous to surgical/rapid firing, your basic bread and butter. Trajectory is amazing if you like autocannon and fight in falloff, as it is a direct damage modifier in that respect, and kinda meh if you don't. On my lazor spec whore alt I don't have trajectory V(yet), but my minmatar main I do because it's completely badass in an AC boat, espescially a falloff bonused, double or triple tracking enhancered one.

TLDR: Basically I suggest you look at what you fly and judge if it would be worth getting the ship skills to V, some of those Vs have a really big impact on the ships they influence, but they ultimately specialize you when you could be getting some of those really nice support skills to V and making all/most of the ships you fly ships better. Personally, I would for sure train AWU V or even shield upgrades V before I trained say, hac V or even logi or recon V.

Lol, I can sympathise, my 'hulk alt' is only ever used as a cyno alt, he too has perfect refine, can use all the best jew crystals. I did actually mine some ice with him once.

3.5 days from BC V currently and 3.5 from Recon V on an alt.

meant one of those freebie buddy invite alts, not a trial account. although thinking about it they stopped that anyway didn't they?

My former industry alt has trained mining barge 5 twice despite never having sat in a hulk or a mack or the other one.

Also confirming BC5, awu5, su5, thremo5, and logi5 all kick ass. I'm sure recoon5 does as well, but despite having it I've never flown one.

Was thinking the same. Skills that apply to all ships and fitting and cap and such are the most important.

No, DI5 is ace. I think it's one of the best jumps in DPS for the training time.

Every conversation with ever with any noobs has strayed into 'do I really need it to V?' The answer is you need everyhthing to V, it's just a question of prioritisation.

As for the stand out V's:

The frig V's are great value becasue they take no time. Needless to say cruiser V's aford great comedy options, plust unlock the t3s - and training subs to V brings a huge time-shortcut to perfect probing, perfect command etc. Although you have to pay a lot more for the ships.

Destroyer V takes about a minuite, and the thrasher is so cool it erects the nipples of passing munters.

BC V is also great value, drake is great - cane is sex, myrm is comedy gold, all maxed for one skill, but then you need some cross over in weapons to make it work. That said lots of combos work, got projectiles and drones? Then you get cane and myrm.

With the exception of multitasking everyhting should be V for the ships you fly. Having all that shit on the same toon might be a bit excessive tho. It really is just a question of working out what delivers the most benifit most of the time soonest.

Edited a bit closer to Enlish.

Wondering at what point I should stop worrying about maxing my starter race and inject a bit more life into my play style by training amarr or gallente

I've found round about 30-40M skillpoints people start diversifying more - for me it was round about there as well (neglecting training for Dramiel for AT), when I grabbed Medium ACs & Gallente Cruiser V for Arazu/Ishtar.
