TMA: Blender Art and Mixing Supplements into Delicious Treats

Came back from the gym with a bunch of friends the other day and they pulled a blender out, threw all the protein we needed into it with some strawberries and blueberries and bee pollen and stuff, and we drank that shit. Sounds more fun than just sucking down protein from a shaker so please ITT tell me about how much this setup would cost and what are some awesome flavors i can mix up (emphasis on HEALTHY.)

Also other protips like bee pollen which is supposed to be a super food or some shit.

I personally think it's pretty lol but a buddy who started working out recently drinks that shit every day, he seems to enjoy it and gained like 10pounds within the last month:

    400ml milk 0.3%
    200g bananas
    5 egg whites
    1 yolk
    150g oatmeal
    500g low fat curd cheese
    30g Protein 90*
    10ml safflower oil
    strawberries

Quick and dirty pre-workout protein shake
    200ml milk
1 scoop protein(chocolate flavour kicks ass with this)
half cup oatmeal(rough estimate can change it up yourself)
    2 tsp peanut butter

For post workout you could swap the oatmeal with any fruit really bananas/berries are pro you can use less milk if you want since the fruit adds a lot of fluid but that's only if you care about how thick the shake is.

I have a personal hatred for any and all types of health/super food and supplements(with the exception of protein powders and maybe fish oil) in general but that's just me.

personally 2x frozen bananas, 2x weetabix, selection of nuts and seeds, protein powder, frozen berries whatever is cheap at the time, with a sprinkle of coconut and obv milk.
i try to make it a 'complete' meal, mixing simple and complex carbs, its ideal to have after a workout, the body want to get it absorbed quickly, blended you help to get it taken up as quick as possible.
i've stopped doing my shakes for a few months and progress has slowed (in terms or muscle mass gains) some of its down to calories (or not enough) but also the lack of control of the protein/carb/fat breakdown of a meal, which is much easier/cheaper to control with shakes.

    Stoffl whats lol about shakes?

Why do all these recipes sound like very tasty muesli that's been murdered in a blender? Grains, seeds, nuts, fruit, milk? Why not just eat a bowl of muesli? Muesli fucking rocks.

Meh go dump some protein powder(correct me if im wrong but every "recipe" so far has involved protein powder so far) into a bowl of muelis and inform me of the results.

When you say you stop taking your shakes how do you mean. Like would you view shakes as being something you only take as pre/post workout or as an option when you just feel super fucking lazy or simply can't sort out a meal. If you cut down on pre/post(and during) workout protein/carbs you're going to suffer.

    muesli+protein powder=om nom nom

i mean, im just taking a break from them, post workout and as meal replacements i love them, and if they're well 'designed' i see no reason to eat(anything else) imo, so no im a big fan.
after having some dental work i realized 3 shake a day was fucking awesome, i dont think i actually ate anything for a few months, cereal and protein powder i think was the first actual food i ate after
im going to start the creatine again so the shake will make a comeback shortly i think with the new shit im doing im going to need all the help i can get patching up at the damage i do :S

Given that my home-made muesli involves quite a bit of wheat germ on top of a list of other high-protein ingredients I pretty much already do this. No real need to supplement it any further! And as for results? Bloody marvellous.

    Right now I'm doing

    300-500ml milk
    1-1.5 scoop of chocolate whey
    banana

then I add some random bonus ingredients such as peanut butter, oatmeal, or my favourite, FROZEN FRUITS AND BERRIES

    Some good combos:

peanut butter and chocolate flavour whey protien - tastes like peanut butter cups
orange juice as a base instead of milk and vanilla flavour protien - tastes just like lemon meringue pie
tons of fruits and berries - tastes like awesome

Still experimenting with different flavours of whey... think I'm going to get a 5lb of ON chocolate mint next

    1) Buy tasty dry things,
    2) Add to large container and mix,
    3) ...
    4) Profit!

But seriously, the recipe varies each time I make it, I pick up 3-4 different kinds of grains/oats and various varieties of dried seeds and fruit. The more whole grains, seeds and nuts you include the higher the protein count, obviously. Chopped almonds, sunflower kernels, pine nuts and wheatgerm are probably the most common protein sources I throw in, although the various grains and oats also have some. One cheap and awesome product I've discovered recently is freeze-dried raspberries, which are great. Aim for a higher ratio of nuts to oats/fruit than you get in bought muesli to keep the carb percentages down. I tend to throw in a packet of bought toasted muesli for extra flavour, even though toasted oats are usually straight sugar and starch. It's still pretty damn tasty without it if you wanted to be particularly hardcore. Also, buying all the bits in bulk from a well-stocked supermarket is way cheaper than buying premade muesli or cereal, and it takes about 10 minutes a month to make a batch.

I tend to cut a piece of fresh fruit over mine, (pear/apple/banana/papaya/mango/grapes) and top it with a small dollop of sweetened yoghurt. In the winter I'll also warm it a little once I've added the milk and then put the fruit and yoghurt on cold. Add a coffee and it is 100% delicious go-time food. It can also be consumed as a post-workout rebound or general snack.

Edit: One other thing. This is some seriously high-fibre stuff, especially given the kinds of things I like to put into it, like psyllium husks, flax seed and wheat bran. A high fibre diet is great, but suddenly increasing your fibre intake will cause massive farting for 2-3 days. A sudden *decrease* in fibre intake can cause constipation and abdominal pain. Work up to it gently, or make the switch when you're going to be on your own for a few days.

    Easy smoothie:

    1 Banana
Yoghurt (the real, unflavored stuff, not the girly shit that comes in little plastic cups)
    Frozen fruit (your pick)

I throw in whatever I feel like eating, the big thing is experiment! I throw in oatmeal for ruffage, some honey if the grapes are sour pieces of monkey testicles.

Yeah, I've avoided being a hater in this thread but it must be said that the average modern Western diet contains sufficient protein for anything but the most hardcore of fitness regimens. Grabbing a protein-and-carb heavy post-workout snack is a great idea, but loading up on energy-dense supplements is probably excessive until you're at the gym two hours a day. The real advantage of a shake is portability: you can chug it down right after a workout, even if the gym is 30 mins from your house.
