Quarantini - like a Martini, but in quarantine

Since y'all are slacking, here's the quarantine booze thread.

Post your delicious cocktail recipes and whatever beers you're having here.

I'd like a tonic & accoutrements suggestion for a Suntory Roku gin.

I say "Pink" Gins because Yuzu bitters doesn't give the same colouration as Angostora Bitters. Extremely tasty, would medicate with again.

I had it with some ginger last summer which was nice. Not sure what the tonic was but I think it was fevertree, nothing special.

Denver (but not suburbs), announced that liquor stores would be closed after today. Went out and spent $177 to stock up, the big stores had huge lines, but found some decent selection at a medium store. By the time I got home, they already backed down, saying they will just enforce social distancing instead.

At least I have booze now (and no cocktail recipes to offer).

Ironically the one thing I haven't been stocking up on for the last 8 weeks is ale.

Ginventory (which is a bloody fine app) doesn't have that particular brand, but suggests Aqua Monaco Tonic Water or Thomas Henry Tonic Water for a Roku Gin. Garnish: Cherry, ginger, lime or orange.

That’ll be a fun cocktail then as there is basically no difference in gin without flavours added.

That's the gin. Installed the app. Will get Thomas Henry (local product) and whatever I can find at the local supermarket.

Bell's whiskey and soda this evening.

Got the bottle from the cupboard next to the fridge when clearing out my Granddad's house last year. As a teenager I used to pop round his at 6 oclock sharp in the evening and talk about the cricket or rugby with a very generous whiskey and soda.

    You are going to need a few things;

    • Shaker (w/ shaker strainer)
    • Fine meshed strainer
    • Ice (good, hard ice)
    • Bar spoon or similar long, thin thing to stir with is always nice
    • Juice press for lime, lemon etc
    • Various sugar syrups (base recipe is always: 1dl white sugar and 1dl water, slowly warm until clear, let it cool. Scale up measurements for more)
    • Assorted other stuff as listed in recipes.
    • Assorted glass wear to pour this shit into. But in these times you cant be picky.
    • Straws. No plastics pls.

Below are a couple of the things I’ve managed to create, steal and imitate from various places.

    Standard Daiquiri
Because daiquiri's are the best and can be remixed to infinity.
    • 5cl Havana 3 Anyos/White rum
    • 2cl Lime juice
    • 1,5cl sugar syrup

Put everything into a shaker with ice, shake properly and strain into (frozen) glass.
Optional garnish; Lime juice wheel on rim.

    Whiskey Sour
    • 4 cl bourbon, Jim Beam.
    • 3 cl Lemon juice.
    • 2 cl sugar syrup.
    • 1cl egg white

Shake all with ice and pour into chilled glass (if with ice, it should be a cube!).
Optional garnish 3 drop(s) Angostura Bitter (only if you have egg white froth!).

    Mas Mojito
    • 5cl Ron Zacapa 23/Diplo Reserva etc
    • 2cl Lime Juice
    • 3cl Prosecco/Champagne
    • 1cl demerara/agave or 2cl sugar syrup
    • Mint

Put Zacapa, Lime, sugar, mint into shaker with ice.
Shake well and fine/double strain into Highball class with ice.
    Top up with Prosecco/Champagne.

    Swedish Mojito
    • 4-6cl OP Anderson Klar Eko
    • 4cl sugar/syrup
    • 2cl lemon juice
    • Soda/Tonic water
    • Dill for garnish

Put OP, sugar, lemon in shaker with ice.
Shake well and strain into Highball glass filled with ice
Top up with Soda/Tonic. Add dill for garnish.

    Southside Royal (French 75 riff)
    • 6 mint leafs
    • 6cl gin
    • 1,5cl sugar syrup
    • 3cl lemon juice

Muddle mint, gin and syrup. Add lemon juice and ice.
Shake until cold and fine/double strain into coupe, top up with champagne/sparkling.
    Garnish w/mint leaf etc

    Ginghis Island
    • 3cl gin
    • 1cl St Germain / Elder juice or extract
    • Mint leaf
    • Prosecco

Smash mint and put in champagne glass
Put in gin and elder, top up with prosecco.
Insert straw, stir (mint garnish option) and serve.

    The Stolen Smash
    • 4cl vodka
    • 2cl lemon
    • 2cl agave alt 3cl sugar syrup
    • 3-4 Basil leaves
    • 3 Strawberries

Smash berries and basil leaves, put in vodka, lemon, agave and shake with ice.
    Fine strain into chilled/frozen glass.

I can also recommend firing up Insta and start searching/following good bars and cocktail places and # associated with spirits, drinks and cocktails

Edit: Yes, this is for people living in the Metric and hence, best, universe. You do the conversions, just like I had to do you oz-heads!

I had my first Wisconsin Old Fashioned before succumbing to a nationwide lockdown. Coincidence?

    • 1 orange slice
    • dash of bitters
    • 1-2 spoons simple syrup
    • 1 oz brandy (or rum)

muddle cherry and orange slightly, add bitters & syrup, stir, add in ice and pour brandy over. cheese curds optional.

    A current personal favorite:

1 1/2 oz. High-Rye Bourbon of Choice (Old Grandad Bottled in Bond is both strong and cheap AND quite good)

1 oz. Sicilian Amaro (I use Averna) '

1 oz. Amaretto (I use Disaronno)

A drop or two of Maraschino Cherry Syrup and a pair of Maraschino Cherries.

This is a go-to for me of late.

If you prefer sweet, try this:

1 1/2 oz. of Dark Rum of Choice

    1 oz. of Coffee Liquor

    1 oz. of Chocolate Liquor

    1 oz. of Half/Half

    Desert that Gets You Drunk

Suntory Roku 'Pink' Gin. Is what started this thread.

Go all in on the grapefruity marmalade flavour of Yuzu (one of the botanicals used in Roku).

    Tumbler.

Gin. To taste is good, more is better.
Couple of ml of Yuzu Bitters. Just enough to give the gin a slight yellowish discolouration.
Add Ice, then top off with Tonic of choice.
    Swizzle.
Finish off with a twist of Yuzu.

I've also seen a Roku with Blackberry Bramble that looked delicious.
